A blacked out rear window is not illegal in CT as long as you have a passenger side mirror. Trucks with cabs can't see out their rear window so Connecticut law allows the rear window to be as dark as anyone wants it to be as long as you have the passenger side mirror to see when switching lanes.

The law is really designed to prevent accidents when changing lanes vs. officer safety. It's Connecticut, would you expect anything less? It's the most liberal state in the nation..... The motor vehicle fines are quite steep tho compared to most other states which always suprised me considering how liberal we are. I think there would actually be more enforcement of speeding and stop sign/red light violators if the fines were a little less actually. People are more concerned with their insurance going up vs. the fine itself.

I think some officers have a problem citing someone in CT for $114.00 for rolling thru a stop sign on their way to work. I not defending the violators by any means im just saying I know many guys that have a hard time whacking someone with a fine like that when that is like two days of take home pay for many in the urban environment.

The speed one travels on the highway does not generally result in more accidents just the severity of impact which of course can cause more bodily injury. But statistically if the speed limit was raised to say 75 or 80 vs. 55 or 65 the rate of accidents would hardly increase.

Your better off giving out parking tickets imo. They cant get out of those to easy.

Brett, while we are on the subject of fines, what would 126 in a 65 be worth? My windows aren't tinted though. Took off years ago because I don't like the driving with sunglasses on at night effect.

Mark anything over 85 mph (86+) is considered reckless driving in state of Connecticut. It would not be an infraction (fine) it would be a Misdemeanor arrest. It use to be an automatic (10) points on ones license as well but may have changed. Ones insurance will either double or drop the insuree.

If the speed limit is 65 mph then whoever you are referring to was obviously on a (LAH). One could and might be taken to jail and given a bond or issued a PTA but the Officer could also give you a Misd. Summons on scene which is really no different then the physical arrest other then the drama of having to possibly bond out and get fingerprinted and photographed and possibly having your name printed in the following days newspaper. You have to sign a Misd. summons tho to get it.

State PD usually takes a pic of someone with a polaroid when issuing a Misd. Summons because they have to hunt them down if they fail to show up for court. City police do not follow up like that on those type of offenses. The name just goes in the system as an FTA 2nd warrant.

When one goes to court the most you could get for a Misd. in Connecticut is a year in jail. A felony is over a year and up to a life sentence (A life sentence in CT is a maximum of 60 years).

The fine would be quite steep at those speeds of course. One would be looking at $500 to $1000 likely depending on which GA (court) you are out of and what mood the prosecutor was in. No one does jail time for speeding in Connecticut unless you have an extensive MV history or you have caused an accident or fled from the Police.

It would not matter if you were on a LAH (Limited access highway, meaning 91, 95, 84, RT. 8, Etc...) or a city street. 86+ mph is reckless by state statute.

Any street is technically a highway in the state of Connecticut. Anything over 60 mph (61+) on a city/town street (meaning other then an (LAH) is also a Misd. arrest). I have given many breaks to people by lowering the speed to 59 to prevent someone from technically being arrested. A Misd. MV summons is a little different then a regular Misd. tho.

I keep my windows untinted so all the hunnies can see who the handsome young man is driving such a nice car....
