I have a transplanted 87 gn engine into a s10. I bought a caspers stand alone harness and thats great. Have it all wired up and it starts revs high then dies. If i try and restart it stumbles and wont idle. Only runs if i keep my foot in throttle. Hesitates bad when you throttle it at first. Have a racetronix hotwire kit with walbro pump, new spark plugs and plug wires. Engine is stock. Have tried search and tried some suggestions found with no luck. Have unplug Mass air still same issue.

Any help?

Check all the basics with a scantool: TPS, IAC, etc.

I am gonna replace intake gaskets. This truck has set without running for about 2 years and has some pretty bad oil leaks. So I think I will start with intake gaskets and replace valve covers while there. Any recommendations on gaskets? I don't yet have the check engine light wired to a bulb but I do have access to scan tool. I check fuel pressure and its erratic and low could be caused by vacuum leak right? Since has new pump? When it kinda popped back into intake I did have a rather large amount of smoke under hood possibly from leaky gaskets.

Sounds like the iac, go to www.gnttype.org and ck the "spring cleaning" section, it should give instructions there for cleaning and adjustment. It's located at the bottom of the throttle body. When starting it up make sure you have all your intake hoses connected and not sucking in unmetered air as this causes all kinds of issues. I would wait on the gaskets until you have it running properly. Unless you have a known issue w/the int. gasket. You can spray some eather along the manifold to check if the engine smoothes out when running and that will let you know of a leak at the gasket. Otherwise you can add to the existing problems.

W/o the CEL hooked up, the alt is not charging. Therefore, it could be low ign, fuel pump voltage, etc.
2 yr old gas is crap you don't want to deal with. Injs clogged, filter messed up, pump sock plugged, rust in the tank, etc.
A vac leak is going to possibly cause the fuel reg to go to it's line off setting, not low psi.
I'd suggest you start at the tank, and work your way forward.........

I have changed the fuel and pump. Will change fuel filter this weekend. Anyone have any ideas on a smoke machine to check for vacuum leaks? We had one at a dealership I worked at been thinking about checking that way. Like I said it has a fair amount of smoke under hood when back fires. I am doing this alone so it's hard to see where it's coming from. If it is a clogged injector should I upgrade to higher lb injector/chip combo?

How about your location?? might be easier to get responses...........
