Got a tr with low miles but the car shows more us ethen the odo shows.. What can i check to see if there has een something tampered with.. Know a guy 1 time who disconnected tranny cable of some kind an miles stopped. But a low mi. tr should not have the brake pedal half wore thru..Any info. would be nince on this. A topic i never see..

This should stop this thread short..........Just add 100k to what it says on the odometer, and you'll have the same low miles everybody else has. ;)

if the speedometer works, then the odometer should work, they are coupled together with gears in the gauge cluster I would assume. If the speedometer cable is disconnected at the tranny, neither speedometer or odometer would work. Some cars also had a place near the brake booster where the speedo cable would come together with the cruise cable, then go to the dash.

If the brake pedal rubber is worn thru and the car is supposedly low mialage, chances are he was running around with the speedo disconnected. The car may have much higher mialage than what was represented to you at the time of sale. :(

My GN I bought from the original owner, I paid a tad more for it but I knew the cars entire history. Don't be afraid to walk away if you see something fishy, there will always be another. it may take time to find the right one, but be persistant and keep looking.

If you think you got flubbed can you reverse the deal or is it done?

If the speedo is inop now you could call the police and report a fraudulent sale. Check your options, he may want to buy it back from you then deal with the police.

Uhhhhhhhhh, CarFax????????

What kind of overall condition is the car in and what kind of mileage is shown?

What about the rest of the car? In my mind the seats are a better indicator of condition than the brake pedal. High boost launches would accelerate the wear on the brake pedal I think.

awhile back when I was on a road trip I had the cruise on and the speed would drop... I paid attention for awile and every 10 miles the odometer would stick and not roll over and the speed would drop until it would click over or my fist hit the dash...

Well!!!!!!!

Turns out something was up with it after all... This was a car I had been looking @ an the condtition was very well for a car that showed 32,500 on the odo an price was good. But when I talked to the guy somemore. He said it has a problem in the dash that hasn't been fixed. Its amazing what people will try to pull over on you when you purposely "act" ignorant to things. So I said no thanks to the car. An about a hour later he caled with the price lowered.. Kinda funny when he was pretty firm before.. These cars are going up in value an collectors are starting to pay more attention. A guy here in town just payed $19,000 for one with 28 K Miles.. Bone stock with fair paint.. Guess i'm still on the hunt!!!!
