Going in August , what is the best hotel/area to stay at for the weekend ? Looking to do a little partying and have some fun !!!! someone mention to me the Detroit Marriot or the Hyatt . Any help or suggestions will be very welcomed . :) thanks .

We are going this year but I have heard hotels are booked way in advance. If you have never been to this its a 15 mile long or so 6 lane wide rolling car show that can take 4 hours or so to go through. Very cool. Sorry Im not much help but finding a local hotel may be impossible.

I just went ahead and booked the Hyatt Dearborn . wasn't a problem . 15-20 mins away from the cruise and $111 a night , large room w/ two grand double beds . not bad deal I guess . :)

the 12 to 13 mile road stretch is the hot place, there is usually a large Turbo Buick gathering a few days before at the moose preserve resturant at the north end of the cruise. People cruise the whole week before is it a crazy event.

There's some decent/cheap hotels in near the Oakland Mall in Troy. I know there's at least a hampton inn, an econolodge, a red roof, and a fairfield. It's ~3 Miles from the main (12-13 mile/Woodward) area. I would start the search there.

Fortunately for me, I work right down the road from the main event and have relatives that live within 2 blocks of Woodward. Trust me, that worked out well when my transmission went up in smoke while cruising my Lincoln 2 years ago.

Thanks for info guys . :) Mike how far am I from the Hyatt in Dearborn to 12 to 13 road stretch ?

~18 Miles. Not too close. Traffic will be unbearable. Its about 30 miles if your interested in going to the buick meet at the moose preserve.

thanks . so how far from the Hyatt to Woodward ? I may just go that route .

Been there done that, would never go again.

It's just a huge parking lot. Just sit and watch, no driving.

Watch your cars closely !
I have a friend in RATT task force in Baltimore and people popping cars at these shows or following them for later is getting big. They picked up 3 vintage 851's at the same place and there was a very detailed list of plate #'s, car & owner descriptions (ie "the club" on floor) (clifford alarm fob on key), These notes were taken from someone following the hotrod power tour and they turned up in a stolen in Baltimore....

Talk to the local GN guys find out where it is safe to leave your car and unplug something at a min to slow a would be down.
Have fun its is a awesome cruise from what I hear. My Dad went a few years back when the Orange New gen GTO was there.

Warning to you if you plan on a day full of burnouts, don't be this guy.

Woodward Isn't The Best Place For A Turbo Buick Burnout

The main area between 9mile and 15mile are relatively "good" areas, but travel Woodward Avenue too far North or too far South and you find quite a few characters that are of questionable intentions. Especially South.

LOL...that looks like a Ontario Canada Plate on that GN . :) so...from the Hyatt Hotel how far to Woodward , and will I be in the 9mile-15mile "corridor ?

I don't know where exactly the Hyatt is in Dearborn, but in general, Dearborn is ~18 miles from where you want to be. Just plan for a 30-40 minute drive to and from the hotel on the official cruise weekend. Traffic near the event will be atrocious.

Other than that, it should be a blast, enjoy!
