Words of wisdom to you all...never pull your motor & trans out at the same time!

Boost is good.
LOL! To those of you who think you can take the motor and trans out together, BEWARE! It is NOT easy! I figured I would try to do this since I never tried it before and always pulled the motor out by itself. I actually tried for an hour and finally gave up and just disconnected the tranny from the motor. That was not easy as well being at an angle. I was afraid I was going to destroy my car trying to pull both out together. And I actually have EVERYTHING taken out of the car (this includes wheel wells, radiator and all the A/C and heater stuff out, wiring harness, blah blah blah). This was not fun and I do not recommend doing this again. Always take your tranny out first!

how can a relatively big car with a relatively small motor be any worse than doing the same thing on my 76 Vega with a 350 in it? or my 71 Nova with a 355? or a 67 Chevelle with a big block? ir a 77 Impala with a 350 and 700r4 trans? or how about when i put the 350 V8/700r4/transfer case combo in an 88 S10 pickup all at once- and the whole front clip including the hood was still on the truck?
i'm trying to figure out just how in the hell you can't get a short little V6 with a 200-4r out of a midsize car at the same time? maybe you just needed the chains hooked up farther back to balance things better.

i always do both (if necessary) when possible, partly because i am no fan of lying on my back (underneath car) LOL, it is the angle of the dangle that is the key to get it in and out. an adjustable (engine cradle) helps just my 2 cents

well this is only my second time pulling an engine out of a car...I didn't have any patience...and I was pretty much by myself trying to do this...

I had trouble with the tranny hitting the engine cross member and it got stuck...not to mention I have a DEEP tranny pan which kept getting caught...also my engine puller wasn't exactly the greatest thing in the world

oh well...to those who can do both easily, you have my thumbs up...I'll pull the tranny out seperately from now on

I don't have one of those "chain levels" so I just hooked up a chain around the turbo drain hole since the block is junk anyways...maybe that's a bad spot

You sure are going to alot of trouble for the new E-85 setup  ;)

I usually pull them out together but I remove the trans crossmember and have someone help with the engine crane. Also leave the hood on but being super careful, that header panel looks expensive:eek:

removing trans cross member is a must, that was prob. alot of your trouble, on G-body it just unbolts and slides back

Sounds like my neighbor who works at American Airlines. Their motto is keep cranking on it until it sounds like it is getting expensive. LOL!

could get rough by yourself i helped my brother it was 3 of us all together he pulled it and put it back in i think we moved the radiator first, i dont think theres no way you could do it by yourself , did have to move the cross member though.
