Ive always been an avid Buick fan,my last "real" car was a 72 Stage 1 4spd I sold years ago.Im in the market for a GN "builder" and was shocked to see the current hemmings muscle machine mag with the Last GN Picture and write up,kinda small and didnt do it justice. wouldnt it be cool to see the last of the great one get back in the limelight? Cant imagine the value, wish it were mine.

SEEYA!!

Yeah, it was a small article on a really cool car.

There has been much discussion on this board regarding the "last car" and Mr. Colvin's now-grown son even helped shed a little light on the topic.

Guess you missed my GN in the Sep 07 issue!! Small write-up and pic but at least now i'm famous. :D This year I WILL make it up to there Musclepalooza event at LVD. Can't wait.

I gotta make it up to that event this year too. Might be a good excuse for an event for the "CT Turbo Regal club":)

GNPCA Newsletter from 88 on the Last GN

The article in the May-June 88 issue is called The Last of the Best the final Grand National Produced and it was the last car the Pontiac Assembly plant produced. 5000 workers lost their job when it closed. The owner was a guy Named Robert A Colvin from 608 South Main Street,Springhill,Loisiana 71075. There's a copy of a letter signed by plant manager S.Maitland verifying it was, not only the last GN but final car built there. Picture of it on transporter to be delivered. The engine bears the names of all plant personnel that worked on it. Window sticker has date and time of 5pm , G-plant Pontiac,Michigan.
VIN 1G4GJ1179HP465288,PROD.DATE 12/11/87 . Uniqueness was they put a GN fender emblem on upper section of front header panel. They also say in this article that the car is supposed to go to Mr.Colvin's 4 yr old son when he is legal drivers age. All info was provided by Mr. Colvin,

The GNPCA was having their 1st National Sept 2-4, 1988 East Brunswick,NJ

Also have another old GNPCA News-letter that says when March-1989 rolls around we may all be competing with a pretty hot car the 20th aniv. Trans Am. GN owner's beware goes on talks about the different heads that they are like the Stage 2 heads used for normally aspirated series of blocks that the heads are smaller but flow better because of cylinder head port revisions . That they were still having problems with vibration, a host of dif engine mounts, dampning devices, were trying flexible exhaust couplings exhaust, that success was only about 90% but acceptable. They had to reinforce frame to gain structural rigidity because the Turbo V6 produced too much power for the standard uni body frame. Weight was 3400 compared to 3550 of the Regal, 190.3" vs. 200.6, 10hp increase cause of 3800 heads, larger rotors and 16" wheels, drag coeffient the lowest in the GM lineup, the high speed govenor was set at 160 vs.the 124 for the Regal.

There's a short video of the very last GN going down the assembly line.

Lots of assembly plant staff following it to its last stop on the line.

Kinda blurry/shaky/dark/wobbly at times, but still rare & historic.

Taken by a lineworker on a '87-era home videocam.

Sounds like a bit of a party going on.

Have it on another old old hard drive, but it's also been on the net.

Other people here also have it & will share hopefully.

The vid was titled "LAST GN".

Here's some more interesting detail(s) on the last GN:

Mr.Colvin's Son

Mr Colver's son is he the proud owner of said GN? He must be 24 yrs of age. What a great car to get as an inheritence from your oldman when you hit drivers age. It would be nice if this car can get/gains some kid of noteriety like the last 67 Stingray. At least within the Buick Community. How many miles does the last GN have now. Is it still in Cajun Country? Are the worker's autographs still ledgeable in the engine bay? That would be a great car to have a neat part of GM,G-body history...

Check out this thread I started. http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/turbo-lounge/238962-first-gn-built.html
Even though Colvin has the last GN built there is one GN that has a higher VIN sequence which technically makes it the last GN. The last GN is #465289. I'm still digging for the thread but there is quite a controversy on which car is what and who owns the true last GN.
