ok, i am having xfi system installed at bowling green next month by cal and from what i have read, i need to move iat to upper plenum. i also am running gn1 intake and rjc plate , were or what position is the best place to put the sensor on plenum (front or back). and would it disrupt the air flow for which the plate was desighed without a iat sensoe their.also hope i really like the xfi set up, and hope it would make car faster.

I have mine mounted in the upper plenum on the passenger side just downstream of the throttle body.

first off your going to love the XFI. i know when i put mine on my car it was night and day difference. even street driving it drove better then with the stock ecm. as far as where to put the IAT sensor i like the back of the plenum. just get a nice clean spot and mount it there. also its not going to effect airflow like you are thinking. i would call cal and see if he wants you to do anything special before the install. he might have you put the IAT sensor in a different spot.

Cal told me to put it in the back of the lower intake, as a matter of fact I just did it a couple of hours ago. My intake is off and that may be why he said to put it there. It would be alot easier to do it in the plenum if the car is all together(just take the plenum off).

Also don't forget welding in the O2 bung in the downpipe.

I have my IAT sensor in the upper doghouse on the passenger side.

If you are getting the AEM style 3.5 bar MAP sensor, I would tap some 1/8NPT threads in the back of the manifold. This way there is no chance of a vacuum hose coming off and blowing up your motor. Better yet, since you're running a GN1 intake, get a plenum spacer for it and put the MAP sensor in there.

I prefer the back of the lower intake if the engine is apart. Mostly for cosmetic reasons. Otherwise, put it in the upper plenum in a spot that won't interfere with the throttle cables/linkage. I use a 37/64 drill bit (a 9/16th will work) and a 3/8 NPT tap for the hole. I recommend NOT tapping it too deep. This way just the tip of the sensor protrudes into the plenum.
The IAT signal wire is plenty long for wherever you locate the sensor, in most cases the IAT ground wire is too short and needs to be extended. We have IAC extension harness's for those who prefer to plug into the stock location and not modify the wire.

Edit: Wow, looks good Billy! I especially like that new sensor with the brake line attached to it :)

If you need the correct drill bit and tap, I will sell mine. Just used once. I payed 40 buck for both. I will sell for 20$ shipped.

He needs to take weight out not put it in:D

I had someone who I consider very knowledgeable of TRs tell me that putting the O2 sensor in the DP down by the dump pipe is too far away. Said that it can't get correct readings down there. He suggested moving it back up closer to the turbo. Is there any truth to this? I did a lot of research here before I put mine down under the car - right by the heat sheild for the cat.

Thanks,
Jim

That's where my O2 is. No issues here. Really what's the difference if it's 1' from the turbo or 2.5' from the turbo? About the only change I can consider is it's not as hot under the car. I bet the temperature differential is not that much.
