Hello speedsters! I am a newbie here on turbobuick and am about to purchase a 84 T-Type in complete stock condition. It has absolutely no changes at all.

I know the turbo is different on the 86-87 Grand Nationals. Is that the major difference motor wise?

Would I need to invest a lot of cash to get it up to stock 87 Grand National specs speed wise?

The list is pretty long as far as things you would need to swap over. Intake, fuel rail, fuel lines, plenum, harness (?) ecm, intercooler, headers and that's just the obvious. It's not that difficult but it is labor intensive. Best guesstimate is somewhere around 2500 for everything you would need, but guess is the key word.

Lots of knowledge guys will chime in on the 84 to 86/87 conversion you're talking about too. You might just want keep it 'Hot Air'. I know a couple guys that did that and are quite happy.

Congrats on the TR!

You might be better suited to just save up a little longer and go for an 86-87, all said and done will probably cost close to eachother give or take a few thousand from what I have seen. And then you would also have a car that is worth more in the event you ever plan on selling. This would also preserve the integrity of the stock 84 car which may be worth more stock than it would be if a transplant were done....this is all of course dependant on how much the person is selling you the 84 for
