How much different does does 11.999 feel from 12.019 ? dammit I almost got there!!!But I lived to fight another day. No point to this thread just venting/bragging.

it feels great !! i dont know why the run wasnt spectacular but seeing the slip afterward felt great . I wont forget it , I've been much faster in the 86 and it just wasnt a thrill but getting an 11 sec slip in a stock motor that i tweaked from a turd felt great

september 2004 my 87 was bone stock air box and all and on it first outing at the track on street tires and 93octane and 12 psi it was only at 15 second 85 mph, came back in november with alky untuned and got 13 low slip at 101 but it took the old stock trans so it went away for the winter still untuned . came back in spring with a fresh trans a TA-49 and some other small mods but still kept the block unopened and made a low 13 pass first time out ,had the chip retuned and was in the low 12s , by May with tuning and hitting the track every week i had cut that to a 12.008 (talk about close) and the next week followed up with a 12.055 ( so close again) , tweaked some more and finally got that 11.996 slip .it felt great then , and all 11 second runs after that were no big deal , so trying to get that feeling again i switched back to the stock turbo on the last three weeks of the season and hit a 12.044, followed by a 12.084 and on the last week hit a 12.030 and a 12.06 , so now i have a new goal to get into the 11s again and it feels good .

My goal...( hopefully realilistic) for my first pass will be 11.70's, will be my first time down the track in a TR. After a bit, run 11.50's @120 at will and still be able to drive cross country...( BG perhaps)

Yep, it's there. All in the 60ft. My stock block car with a TA60 THDP 009's and that was it. Went 11.70 @ 114, but with a 1.55 60ft.

stock convertor

I a 3500 stall conv on the way but man I would love to get an 11 on my stock convertor. The track wont open till after the 1st, maybe I'll wait on the conv install. I didn't think I would get that from the stocker.

What kind of tires are you running? I think your car has 11.70's in it right now with proper traction. I run 275/50 MT drag radials. Drive to the track let the air out to 16psi and leave with 10-12psi of boost. I went a 1.52 60 ft with a stock converter and tranny with the TA60.

It takes a LONG time to spool, BUT if you have the upgraded wheel cylinders and brake shoes, it will hold without pushing thru the lights.

If you're running regular radials, get some sticky tires. Unless you're just one of those guys that wants to do it Cooper radials or something.

ME, I don't have that kind of time when I go. But good luck and let us know how it goes.

PS-if your running regular tires and put in the 3500, it's gonna spin worse :)

what tires

I'm running MT drags. I left at 8-9 lbs and was still making boost. VERY SLOWLY. But after a few passes everything heated up in the car. The track was about to close so I shut it down for the night. Funny thing, my last pass I got a 1.81 and ran 12.23. Wonder if the turbo/torque conv had gotten too hot. Can a hot TC hurt perf alot? I always try to wait at least 30 minutes between runs to cool off turbo. What about TC?

Few more ?'s for you. What size MT's? What pressure you running? What kind of rear suspension?

To give you some ideas, I ran 26x10 MT drags with 13psi of air seemed to be my magic #. Run one airbag in right rear at 24psi. I leave with up to 15psi of boost depening on track condtions. And usually 60ft in the mid to high 1.50's

I'm running 255/50/16 MTs with15 psi and 2 airbags drivers @ 10lbs, pass@ 15lbs. I kinda bog out of the hole, for just a second like I'm not boosting, I put an RJC boost cont. in but it still doesn't seem like it's coming up correctly.

The rule of thumb is .10 in the 60ft is good for .15 seconds on the big end.

With tires, you are there. Knock your 60ft down a little and you are in the 11's.

Example.
12.01 on a 1.97 60ft
11.86 on a 1.87 60ft
11.71 on a 1.77 60ft
and so on........

Edited by request, to show .15 seconds on the big end.
LeeB :)

Randy Alexander

Yeah, I know Randy, he's a great guy. He has given me ALOT of good advice and is a great tuner. I cant wait to see his new combo. He's gonna scare those po boys at Lucas. Alexander's Automotive is a great place to take your ride for a performance tune. Where in MS are you from ?

Lol, i remember my quest to the 11's. One of the passes i ran was 12.001. If i took a crap before that pass i would have been in the 11's. Damn that was a long time ago.

I'm buying some slicks. :D  ;)

PS: Your next pass will be in the 11's, especially at 114 mph, bigger burnout 6psi. launch. :)
