P1020994.JPG This is a Buick crate engine 3.8 liter v6 block. It is a rebuilt unit. It is a long block with the heads and front cover and oil pump. CASTING # 25514290
Cyl head casting number# 25506293.
Now for the odd part of it. It was rebuilt in 1988. It is bolted on a pallet and still has the tag on it.

Spark plug holes still have plastic plugs in them. But the intake and exhaust runners are open.

I bought it with some other items. I did try and turn the crank and it moved but felt tight. I did not force the issue. I will get pictures up tomorrow. It does at least have new parts in it. It does not look like it has been wet. There are a few small spots of rust on the block but nothing major.

So what I know now is that it is a turbo crank that has been cut .010 on the rods and .010 on the mains and it is a rolled fillet crank. Also know it has be bored .060 over. Block number25514290 and head number 25506293 on both heads. $225.00

Well read that there should be a return hole going into the lifter galley. I don't see one. Now there is one in the back going downinto the block and also one just back frm the oil pump. I would guess one is a oil sending unit hole. Also the galley openings down to the cam are rough. Ithink the turbo block that area is beefed up.

I could be wrong but I don't want to misrepresent it.

The only block that's different is the late 85-87 109 casting. The rest of the blocks from mid 77 to early/mid 85 are all the same. The only real way to check is to pull one main and rod cap and look at the crank. If the bearing surfaces have a compressed (rolled) fillet. The rods will have 2 bumps (dots) on them. The only thing that is bad, is it really a .060 block?

I was able to look into the spark plug hole and to my surprise it had black letters 3.8 and then .060 on top of the piston.

Is this what it looks like?

The block might work for a stockish rebuild. Other than that, everything is a good turbo engine. Don't scrap it but sit on it. When someone needs it or wants it you'll sell it.;)
