I'm getting a bang or clunk (from intermediate servo?) when trans shift to 3rd at light to med throttle.
More than 50% throttle shifts are firm, no clunk sound (lighter throttle/harder clunk).

1-2 & 3-4 are clean shifts.

Where would be the best place to start/change to rid the clunk?

*BQ trans with KC vb/BQ gov

Your probably experiencing what is called bind up. The direct clutch is engaging before the second gear band is released. This is a common problem when you go dual feed. I have come up with a fix for it but it involves using custom made return springs and spring retainer in the direct clutch drum and going back to the stock size feed hole in the spacer plate that feeds the direct clutch. I'm sure someone else will chime in with a different solution but this mod works very well for me. Nice 2-3 shifts with no binding at light throttle and firm shifts at WOT.

The CK shift kit does that at light throttle. If you would like to lessen it unblock the 2-3 shift valve. I have one car blocked and it shifts like you describe. I have another with no spring in it just letting the valve go where fluid sends it(at advice of another vender) and it's not as bad. Both have 2nd design CK plate.

Or loose the CK plate and start small on the holes and open it up until you get desired shift feel.
