i changed transmissions

new trans came from a T Type(342 gears) went into a 85 delta 88 with a 307(241 gears)

could not use the T Type TV cable.no matter what adjustment i made ,i only got an inch of throttle with it,i had to use the one from my old trans.

adjusted tv cable per instructions on Jake's performance website,it shifts very firmly,im fine with that.

but it shifts very late, has to wind out a lot to shift into second and drive.

first question:

is the late shifting due to the speedometer gear difference??

if not, what could be the problem?

second question:

i can't get the speedo fitting out of my old trans housing,it looks like it's welded in there.i soaked it in pb blaster, still wont move.

can i buy a new gear for this trans?i believe i need 34 teeth gear, according to the service manual

thanks in advance

The speedo gear won't have anything to do with the shifting. The governor may be suck or the TV cable adjusted wrong

The governor and valve body are calibrated for the 3.42 gears and you have 2.41's so the shifting is going to be off. Governor pressure is going to be different with the 2.41's and your driveshaft speed is going to be different than the 3.42 gearset would provide. You have to make it match what it came out of to make it shift correctly. Basically you have to make more "road speed" to make it shift with the 2.41's you have as compared to the 3.42 gears it had.

thank you.

I'd swap out the 2.41 gearset with a 3.42-3.73, trying to use overdrive with such a tall gear is asking for constant shifting between 3-4 and TCC confusion, trans overheating will be a problem, good luck.

Kevin.

right now,im only doing city driving(max 40mph) until i get this gear thing straightened out

my old 200r4 was an OG code.

instead of changing rear end gears, would it make sense or be easier to switch out the BRF code governor to an OG code 200r4 governor,or would that tear up the valve body???

i actually have 2.73 gears not 2.41 gears,if that matters

That would make it shift sooner, I say try it if that's what you're looking for.

Vince @ Janis Transmission is hooking me up:biggrin:

getting me an OG convertor and gear,so i can get decent shift points.

he said it will still shift hard because of the valve body, but i wont be winding the crap out of this old 307 anymore.
