Hi I could use some good advice. I have destroyed my third 2004r.. This time the forward drum shaft I think? no gears.. the last one was a Stage3 from lonnie EA. It is a street car and I drive on highways alot.. I maybe take it to a track 1 time a year .. I live in Denmark so I can't get my transmissions rebuild anywhere. What would be best the 4l80 or th400.

The one thing I can say is don't race it in Overdrive, if you're going to romp on it, run it in Drive.

The transmission guy told me that after I went through two.

Yes the od will be missing on the highway with a TH400. But the 4L80 costs 5900 and almost 1000 in shipping and then we have the famous 20% tax on top. That's a lot of money. especially if it does not last many years. I don't know how strong it is?, it says up to 1500hp..
My GN has never ridden with alky so hasn't been above 18psi or had slicks on a track. But still, my 2004R couldn't stand my street driving more than 4-5000miles. And it should last up to 1000hp. I changed the atf every 1000-1500mils when it smelled or had changed color. Also don't have heat problems. but I don't drive nicely... My right shoe is heavy.. wish I was a transmission rebuild master.

Sounds like you need a reverse manual 400 with a gear vendors OD. If you're killing 200's at 18psi there's something not right. What did EA say when you talked with them?

A TH400 with OD is it the strongest?. I haven't spoken to EA yet. When I bought it he said that I was right on the edge of what it could handle, I have 680tq on the wheels. so I hoped it could last when I wasn't using slicks on a track.

A 400 can take alot of power, as far as the 200 I cannot see why it shouldn't work for you. I would talk to EA before you go changing anything.

he is making 680tq at 18lb boost! This is not a your average Buick. He can break a good 4l80 with that on the street.
When on the street you spin the tire, ease out, tire grabs and parts break. with that much power. Worse posable thing for any transmission
Personally I bet he is not worried about MPG or (KPL) and saving 600 RPM at highway speed is not going to extend the life of a v6 making 750 HP. My old truck has made 3 trips from Tucson to San Diego and back in drive pulling a trailer an 1 to Illinois and back with 3.42 gear and 26 in tall tire..
If you have a ECU that can control a 4l80 I would might go that way. If not I would go 400 no OD.
Im surprised you have not broke the 8.5 first

Thanks for the answer. I haven't ruined my 8.5 aburn yet. I know that I need to drive more nicely. But then I might as well buy a Honda. Yes I have ecugn in it. And a Ta block that should have the right bolt patern. That's just a lot of money for a 4l80 swap. My wife will divorce me if she found out I used so much. I have to play the lottery now.... I'm wondering if it's a hassle to try to change the forward drum shaft myself. But if I have to take the trans off 5 or 10 times before it works, I don't have time or patince for that..

I just did the 4l60 in my truck. First time because I just retired and wanted to give it a try.
To be honest I don't think there that hard to do. Need a few special tools less than 50 bucks US. I will give it a try If I ever break my stage II from Lonnie.
Yours has all ready had all the proper mods to the pump and valve body. Just watch a few YouTube videos first. get a big table so you can lay everything out.
It's broke today can't get any worse. If you were in the US It might pay to send it back to Lonnie he is a supper guy.
To swop out the 200 for a 4l80 or 400 has more cost than just the transmission. Drive shaft and converter is 2500 bucks.
If there a bunch of junk you need to cut the converter apart and clean and the coolers need to be cleaned too.
So YES I would try it.
