im new to this forum and i dont own a buick but im looking to buy a regal soon. but i was wanting to put a 2004r in my 72 olds cutlass. and i was wondering how do i identify a 2004r from its casing. im getting 1 from a wrecking yard and getting it rebuilt. if anyone can help please do. thnx

integral tailhousing
dual bell housing bolt pattern
4 prong connector on the drivers side above pan rail
metric on pan
metal tag near tailshaft housing..... should have a code that can ID the tranny.....

Desireable ones are BRF (Grand National/Turbo Regal '86/'87).... CZ (Monte SS) as well as BQ I think.... which is '84 and '85 GN I believe....

It has a really funny looking pan. the only rear drive GM trans that has a flat spot and a second part that looks like a second sump. the 200c 3 speed also has an integral bellhousing so don't go on that alone.

The 200C wouldn't have the electrical connector would it? ..... i'm just asking... cause I really don't know....

the tranny that im looking at right now has an id plate on the passenger side that says CK. and on the passenger side of of the tail housing has a C on it. is this tranny a 200c or a 2004r

PTXeme trans. where do i go to see these transmissions. i have a general idea of what they look like but the man at the wrecking yard is trying to tell me that this tranny along with a th350 is an overdrive. and i deal with him alot and he usually knows what he's talking about but i wanna be absolutely sure because i no nothing about overdrive trannys. and the one that he says is a 2004r doesnt look like a 350 or a 400 trans. and the tail shaft has the yoke thing thats made on the tranny. and the pan doesnt look like a 2004r or anything else ive ever seen. but the id tag has a ck on it and a huge C is casted on the tail. never seen anything like it and its bolted to a 403 if that helps anyone. please help

Just type in 200-4R on your web browser. There are plenty of pics on transmission web sites.

I don't see any CK in what I found.... however I am far from an expert.... maybe Chris or Brian can help you...

i figured it out. its a 2004r out of a 86 olds cutlass with a 307. thanks for all the help. now how should i get it built up for a72 olds cutlass 350 pushing about 350 horses

Congrats on your find. You might want to search up a little bit on that valve body/governor combo in this forum. Might not be the best to start off with. Just a suggestion.

You don't state your location. There are competent builders all over and it might be best to get one close to you.

Good luck on your build!

i have a trans in my garage and the tag is rubbed off. i do see a little pink or orange paint on it but no letters or numbers. i was told it was a brf trans and it only has 3rd gear, as i will rebuild it but i dont see any other markings on it.

I found a doner> 86-87 Buick LeSabre with a 2004r (V8)..
Is the trans the same as the 87 Turbo buick.??. or is the (stock) 87 Turbo trans a heavier ...duty version..??

The turbo Buick tranny is more desireable than the V8 Lesabre tranny... it has a differnent govenor and valve body.... these parts are fairly sacred when you go build a maximum effort 200 4R..... However... there are several reputable builders on this site that build great trannys with the BRF (turbo buick) components or... the next best thing is the Monte Carlo SS (CZ) valve body and components..... Contact Brian Hoffer or Chris at CK Performance... or others... they can hook you up. They can probably sell you what you need to convert your donor tranny over to a BRF or CZ model...
