Car will see very little highway except the 20 miles or so to the track. Would it be better to have a th350 built or a 2004r. I'm looking for reliability(200 made funny sounds last time down the track). The car has a 3.27 rear in it, with the next smaller rear being a 2.77.

Here's some possibilities:

TH350 with a lower 1st/2nd gear pkg and a 2.77 rearend ratio.

TH350 with the stock gearing and 3.27 rear gear.

2004r with the 3.27 rear that comes in the stocker.

Looking for opinions from the 350 users as well as the 2004r on which tranny to pursue. Looking for 11 flat and a brush into the 10's on high boost . Cost is a concern however I don't mind sacrificing some cash to ensure I have a reliable trans. I'll be upping my injectors to 72's/75's, modded ecm, and large inline pump.

Thanx

Im about to install a 350 trans that i had a lower first installed so it would be very close to the original 2004r trans without the overdrive and a 3500-4000 stall.

I would stick with the 2004R. It can be reliabally built for the times you are planning on running. The local tranny shop to me does a rebuild that is recommended for those speeds and he even offers a one year warranty. He does a rebuild with extra clutches in each clutch pack, a kevlar band, hardened stator, Transgo shift kit ,and a 2800 stall converter. It is only $1200.

It's a minimum of $1500 for a built 200 here and that's without the converter. A built th350 would cost a little more than half that, throw in the cost of the converter and it would be a lot cheaper for a trans that would prolly last longer.

I'm up in the air, dont have to rush it'll be down for a while....

If you do decide to go with the 350, make sure above all else you hang on to your 200 4R. The TTA trans core is getting very rare and at some point you may want to step back into it.

Easy decision for me, someone already grabbed the original core..

Main reason I dont mind tearing into this car......
