Any mechanics out there familiar with changing these? Is it as easy as it should be? 3.4L AWD model

Nope...they suck.

Book tells you to remove the crossover pipe, but with a little work, you can get to the lower bolt. Tough part is getting the thermostat to stay in the intake while you put the housing back on and get the bolts back in.

Have fun!

Is the housing at the end of the upper rad hose? I can never find a book for the Equinox at AZ or AA.

Yes.

The thermostat housing is under the throttle body, between the crossover pipe and the intake.

Follow all bleeding procedures...look it up in manual or all data or you will be doing headgaskets!!!!!!

Not familiar with this, any details?

Reason I am doing this is it keeps throwing a code about coolant temp too low for sensor or something. Read online that thermostats are popular problem on these so I figured I'd flush the dex cool and throw a thermostat in.

Guy i work with had it done....shop did not bleed it properly and the dealer banged him over the head for headgaskets....your going tohave to look it up....but find out before you open it up.....

Pull off the inlet ducting and you will see it. You have to do it when it's cool or else you'll burn your hands. As Gunslinger said it can be done. I think the bottom bolt is actually slotted so you remove top bolt and just loosen bottom. It will be difficult to maneuver out of there though. I usually just remove both bolts. Good Luck.

Read the little bit I could find online about it. Seems these 3.4's are known for air getting trapped in the cooling system so there is a bleeder valve somewhere on the motor.

There are two bleeders. One right above the water pump and the other is near the upper hose in therm housing. after replacing thermostat crack both bleeded open and fill system till coolant comes out and close. they are 7mm headed plugs so be careful they will break real easy. let it run and watch temp if it starts rising past 3/4 open bleeder at thermostat housing and let the steam outand top coolant. Dont let it go over 3/4. I always use an airlift and then install a funnel buddy and let it run and cool down once or twice. The code is set because the van does not reach a desired temp in a set time that is set by the pcm.In other words its either stuck open or it opens way to soon.I have been replacing them like hotcakes with these frigid temps good luck
