i run a coan 400 trans. problem is no rpm drop from 2nd to 3 gear. under full trottle 30lbs boost. i was told i was running through the convertor, 8 inch coan, after tearing into the trans the direct steels, thin ones .060 thick and 6 clutches the steels were burnt, after replaceing them, i installed a 9 inch 4000 stall conv, this is a manual val, body at 7000 rpm from 1st to 2 gear engine drops 500 rpm from 2nd to 3 gear no rpm drop , feels like trans, is slipping. i took the trans. out today and took it apart. the direct steels were burnt the clutches looked ok, the imd, and forward steels and clutches looked like new. what is the problem? any help would be appreicated.

problem could be a leak in the direct clutch circuit.what MUST BE DONE IS MONITOR THE PRESSURE DROP ON A 2/3 UPSHIFT TO VERIFY NO CLUTCH APPLICATION OR ITS INABILITY TO APPLY BECAUSE OF LOSS OF DIRECT CLUTCH OIL BEFORE IT ARRIVES BEHIND THE CLUTCH PISTON.IF THE TRANS IS ONLY DROPPING 500 ON A 1 / 2 SHIFT THE CONVERTOR IS TOO LOOSE AND IS SERIOUSLY IMPAIRING THE CARS ABILITY TO RUN DOWN THE TRACK PROPERLY.NOW YOU HAVE 2 PROBLEMS INSTEAD OF 1 .IF YOU ARE USING A FORWARD PATTERN OR REVERSE PATTERN FULL MANUAL VALVE BODY IT IS VERY EASY TO DUMP THIRD GEAR OIL INTO THE REVERSE CIRCUIT OR EXHAUST IF YOU ARE NOT FOLLOWING A SOUND PROCEDURE.ALSO THE MANUAL VALVE COULD BE MISPOSITIONED .IF YOU ARE DUAL FEEDING THE HI DRUM YOU SHOULD INSTALL A 2004R LOW REVERSE CUP PLUG IN THE DIRECT PASSAGE AT THE CENTER SUPPORT TO PREVENT THIRD CLUTH OIL LOSS AND IF THE V BODY DOESNT CHARGE HI THROUGH THE REVERSE CIRCUIT SUCH AS THE CASE WITH MANY DESIGNS INSTALL A 2004R PARKING PAWL CUP PLUG IN THE REVERSE PASSAGE OF THE CASE AT THE CENTER SUPPORT PASSAGE.ALWAYS USE CHRYSLER A 604 SOLID TEFLON SEAL RINGS ON THE CENTERSUPPORT AND EPOXY UNUSED PORTIONS OF THE CASE IN THE DIRECT CLUTCH CIRCUIT WHEN THEY ARE NOT USED.WHOS VALVE BODY DO YOU HAVE?I KNOW IT AINT MINE BECAUSE OURS HITS THIRD HARDER THAN 2ND TO KEEP THE SPRAG ALIVE.DONT BLAME THE CLUTCHES AND STEELS,THEY ARE ONLY RESPONDING TO AN INDEXED VOLUME OF OIL CALLED FOR BY THE DRIVER AND SUPPLIED TO THE VALVE BODY BY THE PUMP.LOSS OF THIRD OIL IS WHERE YOU NEED TO LOOK,IM OUT OF TOWN TILL TUESDAY SO IF YOU NEED MORE HELP CALL US THEN

thanks chris, i have a coan pro-brake full manual reverse valve body. the center support has 3 teflon rings, i run a stock 400 with a ati manual valve body and trans brake, with a art carr conv, for two years with no problem, now this trans, has a lot of aftermarket parts in it, and i have problems i tried a tighter conv, the rpm, drop was the same, with the trans, brake applied 3850 rpm= 1 lb boost with the 8 inch conv, 3450 rpm =1 lbs boost, thats with a 88 turbo,
