I see a set of low miles 42 lb/hr injectors and Red 93 and 106(?) chip for sale for $275. Is this a good move for my car with mods listed below:
Stock turbo, stock un-ported heads, stock TB, stock headers, home-made cold air intake w/ K&N 9" cone air filter, ATR 3" dp w/ Deltagate, ATR 3" hi-flow cat, dual 2.5" cat-back exhaust, CAS front-mount I/C, CAS aluminum street radiator, Walbro 307 fp w/ adj fp regulator, Cotton tranny w/ Art Carr 9" Lock-up TQ, new valve springs from Jack, AMOCO 93 hi-test always.

ps...I plan to go to big turbo, headers, and low impedance P&H injectors w/ modified ECM next year. I know I can resell the 42 pph injectors and Red's chips and get most of my $ back when I make the BIG leap.

Injectors

You have an odd combo, a front mount i/c on a stock turbo? But anywhooooooo, if you know you are going to upgrade sometime soon, why not wait until you get the turbo, headers and such and upgrade to 55's or whatever.

For right now, even with the mods you have listed 42's seem a bit much for your combo. You could "grow" into them but it seems as if you will "grow" right past them soon.

The resale value on 42's is pretty good, but from what I've noticed is that most people go straight to 50's or low/high impedance injectors anyway.

I personally reject that "you can never have too much injector." notion that is popular with many folks.

But thats just me :D
Peace

I took the path that most people take with their cars - I upgraded from stock to Red Stripes (others go with 42.5's), and now I have upgraded again to the new Siemen's 57-lbers.

Knowing what I know now, I would have went right to the 57's, and saved the money.

Once you make the commitment to spend money on injectors, don't screw around. I had fantasies that I should get the smallest injector I could go with for my combo, thinking that they would idle and drive the best. I was wrong. My 57's drive as nice (actually nicer) than my Red Stripes, and my WOT fueling is much more consistent, since I'm only using about 85% duty cycle.

Go bigger than you think you need. A year or two from now, you'll be very glad.

Very nice write-up & honest advice!

With today's chips (www.turbotweak.com , Bob Bailey), there is no longer any reason for any one to be an "Injector Collector".

Injector sizes cannot be correlated with Carburetor sizes. While the right foot alone controls the carb, the chip's programming dictates the injector's behavior.

Safe DCs are a wonderful thing! :)

I would do 50's or the 57's so you can use the stock ECM. I had 009's with a FMIC and stock turbo with home ported (butchered?) heads with stock valves and 3 angle, small KB 208/208 cam (sewing machine loud), and stock lower intake. My car is lighter.... but with 20-21psi and 26* chip it went mid 11.60's@114mph with the TC unlocked. 94mph 1/8 mile

IMO the 009's have a tip in stumble characteristic inherent to their flow. I would invest only once in a new style injector (50 or 57) and then you can add turbo/intercooler when more funds arise. Stock headers as you know are good to the 10's and when welded up and ported they are good to the 9's.

as far as injectors go im gonna have to agree with everyone else, go with 50s and be done with it. i had 009s and could never get them right. i dont even know how many chips ive tried but i pretty much tried them all.

I really appreciate all of you responses. Since 50's or 57's seem to be the concensus and everyone is saying to buy injctors one time, I am wondering if I shouldn't do this right and get the ECM modified for low impedence injectors and go with 57 peak & hold injectors. Am I going overboad?

all depends on how fast you wanna go.i was told 50s were all ill ever need. i plan on having a solid 11 second car.:D
