You ever smell gas? I had some pin hole leaks in my line that never dripped. It would all evaporate before it got to the ground. I would just catch a wiff of gas every so often. I doubt you're leaking enough to lower your milage that much though unless it's comming from the tank and you don't drive it much.

yeah no gas smell, but big black soot marks on the driveway

Yes, just replace it. Not the air temp but the coolant temp sensor.
