Can anyone tell me how these turbos are built on small shafts? What was done to the TE 62 to correct its failure in the mid/late 90s? I know Limit is building them and they wouldnt unless the issues were solved. How bout the p trim PT67. How are they building what appears to be such a big turbo on a small shaft?

Just wondering?:)

From what i understand, the failure in the early days was not one of the problems that Limit had. It was a problem with other various turbo manufacturors and the parts that they use to assemble turbos. Not all Garrett turbos are assembled with the same parts!!

The 62 and the 67 small shaft that Limit sells both KICK ASS!!

I have not sold as many as the other huge companies on the internet, but I have not ever had a problem with ANY of Limit's turbos!!

Taffy,

Thanks for the reply. I didnt mean to imply that Limit was the one with the 62 problems, i know exactly who it was.;) I was just wondering how they were now being made and staying together. I thought that the small shaft assembly had a limit on how big of wheels could be used on it.I guess thats not the case any longer.

Wasn't the only problem corrected when they went from the 270 degree thrust to 360 degree thrust?

John at Limit told me that you will not ever have a problem with a small shaft turbo. There is no advantage to upgrading a turbo from small shaft to large shaft. Except for lightening your wallet!!;)

FWIW, I swapped my 49 for a Limit TE62 with an "85" housing and havent heard any of that "noise" or felt any shuttering when lifting the throttle. This thing is a monster compared to my 49. It loves high boost. I have it on 30lbs right now. On my ds, there are much smoother scope graphs at 30lbs than on 25-26 lbs. My car has a factory stock long block except for valve springs. I am also running a red stripe 2800 converter. Wouldnt have looked twice at it if it hadnt been Limit turbo. Cant wait to get to the track. Breakin loose at 70+ mph is rather entertaining as well.:)

Well you can take it from someone who was actually there and selling turbos at the time. In those days we bought and sold turbos from three different turbo vendors. We bought 62's from all three. They failed from all 3 as well. Limit was one of them. Nothing against them John, he is a great guy and makes great products but the facts are the the facts. The other 2 were John Meyers (may he rest in peace) and PTE. We stopped selling these as SOON as we were sure of the problem. This is also the reason that we do not offer the 61/ p-trim now since it is almost exactly the same and has the same POTENTIAL for problems

Interesting.

Yes John is a great guy. His warrantee program is also great.

Like I have said in other posts, not all Garrett turbos are put together using the same parts. Limit uses parts that some of the other vendors do not. I have yet to have any problems with the GT61Ps that Limit has made for me.

I went straight to the horses mouth for info on this one. Limit tells me that they did not have problems with their TE62s back in the day when they got a bad rep. I can not vouch for the vendors that had the bad turbos, but John tells me that the TE62s he sold did not have problems.

John also assures me that the GT61Ps that are purchased from Limit, or from one of their vendors (ME) will not have any problems.

I actually have a TE67 w/69 trim small shaft.. track numbers really soon.

Neat it looks like a TE44 on the outside ;)

So thats what i'll tell everybody :D
