I'm ready to upgrade my TA-49 and bluetops, I'm going to get the 60lb HiZ injectors, but I can't decide between the 6152e and the 6776bb. The price difference is around $500, I'm wondering if I will be able to gain much more going with the 6776bb or save my money for a translator LS1 setup. I'm thinking my 3200 stall is about perfect for either turbo. I can afford either turbo, but if I'm going to get better performance with my setup with the 6152e, then the choice is clear. I have no plans to rework the engine or heads.

I go to the track occasionally, and the occasional "leisure" driving. I'm looking for just more scary, crap your pants, shred tires, beat fast cars power. Currently running 12 flat @ 110MPH.

I have a stock block and heads, mods include
3" THDP
Razor's alky kit
RJC powerplate
100# springs
dutt neck IC
Full Dynomax exhaust, no cat
Walbro hot-wired
RJC boost controller
built trans with 9" 3200 LU
Powerlogger

Those are 2 turbos that I'm considering as well. Leaning towards the 6152 because of the price and because I don't really race my car anyway.

One reason I started changing my mind about a 6776 is that the sweet spot with that turbo is 25psi+ (from what I've read) and I don't want to run that much boost on my car. Not to mention it's a 10 second capable turbo and at that power level you should start considering a stronger short block, and even something as simple as billet caps requires pulling the motor and going to the machine shop. I don't think it's smart to use the 6776BB at it's full potential unless you are going to strengthen the bottom end. So why buy a $1200 turbo if you can't turn it up to an efficient boost level.

Another turbo to consider is in between the two you're looking at, a 6176BB.

I'm having trouble deciding on a turbo as well so I look forward to some good info in this thread.

Sounds like we are in a group decision here! I also was looking at the 6176bb, which might be a good comprimise if replies are going both ways!

I have a non BB PT67 on a unopened stock long block. I moved from a GT32 to the 6776 and picked up 7mph in the quarter with no other mods running 4 pounds less boost. My 6776 sweet spot is at 25 pounds. It will build more boost but my mph does not pick up. I used to run the GT32 at 29 pounds. The 67 seems to run out of steam at 25 pounds, at least with stock heads and cam. It pushes alot of air at low boost.

I would go with the 6776bb and 83lb injectors...in my opinion, i cant think of a better street/track turbo...i love mine and run 26lbs of boost on a completely stock internal motor with no problems yet...that turbo is just baaad:D

With stock heads, I don't think you'll gain much with a 6776 over the 6152. Might be good for a couple tenths, thats about it. To maximize the flow, you'd need to upgrade the intercooler and throttle body/plenum/intake porting. I'd save the money and stick with the 6152 turbo.

I'd think a CPT61BB turbo or similar would be better matched if you want a BB turbo with killer spool. You should be able to get in the turbos sweet spot better without outflowing the heads, especially since you aren't considering upgrading the heads.

I just ordered the Limit 6152 and 60lb injectors from fullthrottle.com :) I'm sure I'll be happy with it compared to my TA-49. :D
Thanks for the replies!

I ordered a BB CPT61 from Jack...I was on the fence just like you. A Precision BB 6176 would be a good choice as well.

I had the 6152 previously in my white car and ran a 11.48 with almost the same combo as you (also stock everything with same bolt ons). I ran mid 11's right off the bat at around 25lbs of boost. I think my converter needs higher rpm to become more efficient but the stock cam wasn't pulling much once the rpms got up there (the higher power raised the converter efficiency rpm range up higher). I think with a properly matched converter I could have knocked a couple tenths off.

For the street, the converter was great though. Just something you may want to look into when deciding your next upgrade.

.......My converter seems to be doing much better with the higher rpm ranges of my current engine (high 5000's/low 6000's). Its an older 9.5" art carr 3200 lu.

A Precision BB 6176 would be a good choice as well.

I've been trying to figure out how this would perform compared to a 6776. Shouldn't it spool the same considering it's the same turbine? Mainly just a little less power due to the smaller compressor?

you can search this some under Patrick's name...he commented to me on this.
You have to remember that the 67 wheel weighs more than the 61. So the 61 compressor wheel of the 6176 will spool faster than a 6776.

I would hold onto the turbo and keep modding around it. 12's ain't jack with this turbo so put the money into more goodies.

I found this thread interesting seeing as i run the 6152e on my Buick and i also have the 6776rsp......but on my 93 Mazda RX-7!!......lol....

in my opinion i think the 6776 is a better turbo for spool-up...(Ball bearing)......but the 6152e is GREAT for the money....i will probably sell the 6152 and option for the 6776rsp on the Buick next....i really like the response time on spool-up (at least with the RX-7) and I know it will flow good air all the way over 30-35psi....

What stall converter do you run with the 6152?

I agree with scooby.....but the converter i have right now is a Blue stripe D5.....i hate it....it only foot brakes to 2400rpm and builds about 3-4psi....once the boost comes it it flashes to about 4000rpm....lol...not very good.

......but as soon as funds permit i will be swapping out.

Hm, well my Pats converter is rated 3200-3400 hopefully I won't notice much lag with a 6152.

I have a Pat`s 3200 with my 6152, and it is very nice on the street.

Thanks for your input. I've been wanting a 6776BB but can't justify the expense of that turbo for a car that I barely drive and never race. Will most likely end up with 6152.

I have the 6152e as well. I think it's a pretty good turbo. Running only 18lbs at the track I was running 12.3's on street tires!
