Just wondering if anyone has tested it, with what kind of results. Is there any advantages compared to 70gtq? And is it TSM legal?

Does the 71mm spool quicker needing less stall? Or is it more efficient with higher boost than the 70 gtq. Considering if it worth the extra money because I am in the market to purchase a new turbo.

Spool up characteristics will be similar between the two models, if both are journal bearing. But the power difference will be significant.

The older 70 GTQ was rated to support 850 flywheel hp. The new Billet 71 HPQ is rated to support 975 flywheel hp. Power comes from the aerodynamic design of the compressor wheel. Look at the records that were just set this past weekend among TSM racers for your results.

Now if you compare a journal bearing 70 GTQ, to a new ball bearing billet 71 HPQ, there will be a dramatic difference in spool up. Possibly by as much as 600 rpms.

Hope this helps.

Patrick

Thanks for the reply.I was unaware most of the faster tsm guys were running the 71 HPQ
I guess that would make sense with the latest records broken and the release of a new turbo.

I'll let you know in a few weeks...just got my 71 HPQ...had a 70GTQ on there previously...

Ryan, we are going to be stepping up the turbo on Daves car to the 71 billet HPQ for sure. Hoping to get well into the 8.8x range next track outing with it.

We think the 70 HPQ is a 8.9x capable turbo also.

Hey, Ted let me know when you and Dave head back out to the track. I am looking to check out a few things to reference on my car.

Those of you using the 71HPQ...are you going with the ball or journal bearing?

I can't comment on the HPQ cause I have a 4 bolt header, so I opted for the hybrid piece and stuffed a bigger S trim wheel in there. Had a 4 bolt 70GTQ on there before and this turbo out performs it in all areas of the powerband. Never been more pleased in a turbo upgrade then this. Precsion Turbo's are flat out awesome.

The HPS is not a hybrid. Its the standard wheel. The HPQ is a cut down HPS wheel so it fits in a 3 bolt housing. To the OP there is a huge difference in a 4 bolt application like the 2 above are using. Much more potential and much easier to make power and the cam selection and installed is not as critical. Not even a fair comparison between the 2 since backpressure will be much lower. Id bet a 70 GTQ 4 bolt will make more power than any 3 bolt turbo regardless of what it has for compressor or turbine. A 70 GTS 4 bolt would be even better. So to anyone that is not class racing and wants to make some easy extra power and have more reliability do yourself a huge favor and go with a 4 bolt combo like ttypewhite and gnbrett.
