I have the PTC lockup unit, and control it w/ Holley Dom. I have the ability to set l/u where I want it..You can do the same w/ the oem ecm..
No need to do away w/ the feature. Just lock it when it's safe to do so....

Good point Chuck. I do want to keep lock-up ability but need to decide whether or not I'll need the ability to lock the converter at WOT.

Have you thought about just bolting it in? You could fab up a gasket or do some searching for some fuel safe sealant. Either way I like where you're going with this!

The problem with bolting the sender in is that the sender hat will then sit too high on the tank and contact the trunk floor. I'm going to weld in a recessed tray in the tank and then the sender will sit low enough to clear the floor.

If someone were to bolt it in, ricks tanks makes a bolt in flange with a thick gasket.

Gotcha, well please take good pictures and post em up! What did all that from Rick's run you price wise if you don't mind me asking?

Another option would be to cut an access panel in the trunk and then add a spacer for clearance. This would also allow you to change pumps without dropping the tank.

Something like this with a nice spacer and cover

No problem Adam. I'll definitely post pics as I progress.

The trunk access panel isn't a bad idea. I considered going that route but decided I'd rather cut into the fuel tank than the floor of the car. Also, the tank can be swapped into other cars without modifications.

I can't seem to find the invoice for the pump hat but my bank statement shows $404 for the pump module, gauge sender and shipping. I do remember the pump module was less than $300 without pumps. I bought the pumps separately from amazon and assembled them on the pump module myself to save a good amount of cash.

Ricks dual pump module- $300
Ricks tube style gauge sender-$100 (any 5-hole gauge sender will work)
Ricks weld-in plate with flange-$110
Walbro F90000267 pumps and install kits $220
Spectra GM307A tank- $120

Big hole cut in the tank.

Update:

The fuel tank parts showed up and I began mocking up the fuel pump flange onto the new tank. Its all tacked up. Now, I need to find a local tig welder..

New Spectra GM307A tank

stainless fuel pump flange (same flange as late model gm vehicles. Can use use 5th gen camaro or cts-v pump modules)

Big hole

Wrapped the plate with 16 gauge steel to recess it 1-1/4"

All tack welded up

Added bungs for a fuel vent and also vented the fuel neck to help with filling.

It's coming slowly. Just received the rest of the parts. The Ricks Tanks stamped flange plate and Spectra GM307A fuel tank showed up. The tank needs to have a good size hole chopped in it to fit the new sender plate. I'll be doing the cutting, fitting and mocking up but I still need to find someone to tig weld it all up.

Fuel pump flange plate (Ricks Tanks P/N 27003)

Hello, excuse me.. I'm in a 6.0 build in a gbody 87.. correct me if I'm wrong, but are you gonna modify that gas tank .. that is a stock gbody gas tank.. ? Fuel pump to a ls ?

Correct. It is a stock g-body fuel tank and I am modifying it. However, most ls swaps can use the stock baffled tank with a high pressure fuel pump installed. The reason I cut out the stock sender flange was to install 2 pumps into the tank that are physically too large to fit through the stock opening. Also, this pump setup will support 1100 rwhp on e85 and the pumps are fully compatible with e85, which as far as I know is not achievable with a stock style sender.

By the way, I managed to find someone to tig weld the tank. It turned out well and had no leaks with the smoke machine hooked up to it.

Very nice, good work

Just finished up the tank. I ended up resealing the tanks interior with por-15 tank sealer to prevent the welds from rusting from the inside out and sprayed the outside with semi gloss black. Also, the sender has seperate outlets for each pump so I wyed them together with stainless tubing and a fragola wye fitting.

The wiring in the car still needs to be done but I'll wait for it to warm up. The plan is to run a 10 gauge feed to each pump and also trigger the second pump via a hobbs switch at 7-12 psi.

That's pretty sharp, kinda gives me an idea.. To paint mine.. I picked this one up from Craigslist, 94 regal gas tank fed a V8.. so I bought it with pump.. 75bucks.. looks identical to my 87 gas tank just plastic. .measures out great..
I shouldn't have any problem getting a LS pump working with tank???

I think you posted the wrong attachment. Why wouldn't you just use the stock gn tank for your swap and swap in a walbro 255, 340 or 450 or even a racetronix drop in sender?

Update: The car needs to be able to launch this season so I've made a few upgrades. Added a Circle D 2B multi-disc converter with a Hughes SFI flexplate and a MSD 2 step. Also, the new fuel system is installed. Should have nice enough weather next month for some track numbers on the new setup.
