Hey guys,

Just switching my insurance over, and they are asking me what my 82 olds cutlass is worth. Which, despite my wishing it is worth a fortune, realize it won't pull in money like a hurst or real 442...eventhough i have a a lot invested, but I figured I would bounce off you guys to see what your thoughts are. Here are the details...

1982 olds cutlass brougham (originally 3.8L v6)
Drivetrain:
355 chevy
edelbrock RPM heads
edelbrock Air Gap Manifold
electric fans
large 4 core radiator
MSD Digital 6AL Ignition
MSD Distributer with blaster coil
ceramic coated headers/dual exhaust behind the rear wheels

700R4 Tranny (beefed up with various goodies)
Hurst quarter stick floor shifter
3.73 posi
Bilstein Shocks and new coil springs (can't remember which ones - moog)
HR Parts N Stuff LCA's and Antisway bar

Body:
Repainted, somewhat close to a stock color
Hurst style hood scoop
Factory Astroroof
Maroon 60/40 Bench seat
Nearly mint GN chrome rims

There was some rust in the floor board on the drivers side that we had fixed a long time ago (1996). The bottom half of the doors were replaced when it was repainted, as the bottoms of the doors were starting to go at that time. I don't believe there is any rust in the truck/rear wheel well (on the inside, not outside) as that is always the first spots to go...

Anyway, I just thought I would poll some fellow car enthusiasts to see what you guys think you pay for something like this.... Also, does anyone do appriasels on here?

Thanks,
Nate

Hi Nate.

Is it shiny because it's actually shiny smooth paint? Or did you just wet it down to make it shine?

It looks like it would be maybe $2000-$3000. But it's hard to determine real value from small pics. Close up pics and interior and underbody shots are needed as are interior shots. Of decent quality.

In all reality an appraisal is your best bet in case something ever happens to the car. The insurance co. "might" give you $1000...if that for it They'll write it off as "it's just an old Cutlass" unless you can provide something saying it's worth more. Even then you might still have a fight to fight but you'll be one step ahead.

87REGAL... thanks for the reply. Your 2-3K assesment based on the photos provided is pretty much what I expected. And also if you saw it in person you probably would go up from there. The insurance company said in excellent condition it would be 4K with out an appraisel.

The paint is shiny and not just wet, it has always been very well taken care of. As much as I would like it to be worth a fortune, you are right...the insurance company will look at it as just another 82 olds...

Thanks for your reply...

Nate

I'd still get it appraised....ins. co. might say it's worth 4k but if it was ever wrecked/stolen/vandalized/totaled....they'd start back peddling...QUICK. Ins. co.'s will low ball you to death on a claim, but an appraisal helps you by stating that's the declared value on your car. Ins. will only go by what an 82 Olds blue books for. Blue books pretty much assume the 82 Olds is an old rusted clunker by now.
