Ok I am new here and have been doing nothing but reading since I bought this car several months ago. I have a problems I can't figure out  so I hope you guys can help,

1st, at idle I am seeing 60# on my oil pressure gauge. First thing I thought of was the oil pressure relief valve, but that looks to be fine in fact the spring and valve slide right out. The engine has about 5,000 on a rebuild. I'm stumped and about to replace the oil pump, I have the poston oil filter mod on the way so should it need to be replaced that will be the time. I am hoping someone might have run into this before and have some ideas, I have read these cars are notorious for oil pressure problems. BTW the drivers side valve cover is vented. I also believe the oil pan has been replaced by a deeper one.

At idle you are seeing 60 psi hot? What oil? Is it an HV front cover (longer housing for the gears) and/or a booster plate?

1. If it is 60 HOT at idle then it may be a bit much. What is it at say 2,000 rpm cruising?

2. If you have an HV front cover AND booster plate, remove the booster plate.

3. Which spring is in the relief? They usually include 2-3 springd for EACH housing (ealry and late) and there are only three made for yours.

4. Is it a mechanical gauge or electric? New? Matching sender? (I had autometer gauge, VDO sender)

hmmmm

Not sure about the HV and booster, I bought the car as it is, how can I tell? As for the spring it is yellow if that helps any. At the moment it cannot be driven due to body mod's and frankly I am afraid to run it very long to warm it up so it is 60#'s cold. I let it run for a bit and it really never drops. It will go as high as 70#'s at start up.

Do you know which oil grade is in the motor?

oil pressure

my buddys gn pegs 100 psi gauge on cold start up st idle.then it drops down to about 20-25 in gear hot idle. if he gets on it when its could it will go past 100 psi. your car if fine dont worry about it drive it.

I thought that might be the case, but better to ask then to blow a head gasket. After all high oil pressure is better then no oil pressure

Here are a few pics to show the HV front cover and standard stock cover. The standard stock one is from my car, you can see the red highlighted area is thin. You can also see the 1/4" "wear plate" in there. The second pic is from Johns performance and you can see it is thicker to allow the longer gears you run with HV.

My car gets 60's PSI cold, with straight 40wt racing oil. Once it warms up it drops. After a few hard boost runs it drops to 12-15 at idle hot in gear. Fire it up, let it get real warm, hell, even DRIVE IT, as suggested above, and see what it reads then. I bet you will be happy with the results. :D

No, I think it looks like a STD like mine. You do either have a wear plate or a booster plate on it. (Steel spacer)

I noticed that spacer, wierd huh?...I couldn't tell if it was HV or not either lol but if you look at the stock one it's edges are much sharper, it you look at the performance one it is rounded like mine. As for the lip size your guess is good as mine
