Changing to GTA wheels. Have two 8" fronts & thinking about getting 2 more made in 9" by True Design Wheel. (1) Anyone with experience their product & service? They tell me they produce exact reproduction in just about any width & offset. (2) Is 9" a good/better choice for the GN - should fit a larger tire - what tire size would be optimal (no rubbing)? Will 9.5" be even better (luv 'em on my Olds 442)? Believe will use Nitto 555R's in back & stiff-wall 555's up front.

May be not getting responses 'cuz I said 9" wheels.....
C'on guys, I don't think 9" suckers would look cool; what I mean are the regular 16x8" GTA wheels, but have made in 9 or 9.5" width (I suppose with 4.5" BS). I purchased 4 used reg. 16x8's but one got lost in transit so now stuck with only 3 wheels (for price of 4). Gotta buy one, so thinking of two in 9" or 9.5" width.
Then I can sell the 'spare' to the right Reply cheap :D !

9.5 will look cool. how much do thet charge to widen it? I run 15X10 and my buddy runs 17X9.5 without any problems.

HTH

Thanks

WickedV6:
$225 each buys a new wheel according to them, any width & offset, but can't be larger than 16" (I orig wanted 17"). That's a little high except when I consider what it cost to clean (I had first 2 chemically stripped), polish the rims, & powdercoat the center, all which drives cost of ea. wheel over $325.
So, for $225 don't have to do all the work & get new 9" one. I just don't know how True Design Wheel compares to looks/quality of original...I think they use original centers so should be ok. What I am looking for is what size tire best fits (9" or 9.5" width, & non-notched frame) without rubbing?

I have widened stock steel GN wheels that were widened by Tru Design. The chrome plating on the wheel shells aint the greatest but they had to buy them from an outside source. I wish they could have gotten the run out a little closer when they welded the halves together. It is almost .010 and it bugs the heck out of me when I have to watch them wobbling around on the tire balancer. One of my co-workers had the polycast wheels on his 71 Z/28 widened by them to with the same problem. I dont have any experiences with alloy wheels though. I just picked a pair of front GTAs at U-Pull-It(on sale $9.99 each!). Sounds like a great idea. Maybe they can widen the rear GTAs to the correct offset too. I have 15X10s on the back and with more choices on sticky and bigger rubber for the 16's I might just do the same thing. Our cars dont good unless the entire wheelwell is filled up with tire.

Hay Fish...you robbed 'em on that!
I'll give ya $10.99 for 'em....hell, I'll give ya $100 for the pair.
If I understood, there is a problem with the 15" steel wheel, but you think the 16" allow may be ok? Where are the two halves welded together?- I'd figure on the backside of the center piece (that way would not be visable when bolted on). Are you also saying that the (poor) welding makes them spin off center? That would not be good for tire wear or anything else. There would not be a problem with poor chrome, but for $225 ea I would want darn good wheels...whatcha think?

On the steels it is just the centers welded to a new one piece shell. I would assume on the alloys they cut the wheel in half and weld new material in to take up the gap. I was just trying to point out that their technique for welding should be a little more exact, something a little closer to factory specs. I wonder if there is a guarantee or what the warranty is on their work?

Yeah those wheels were a steal. At the right place at the right time. They'll make up difference in price on something else I'll buy from them in the future I'm sure.
