While figuring out how I wanted to sand the hood on my 78 Lesabre Turbo coupe I figured I'd try chemically stripping it instead. I went to Menards and picked up a product called Liquid Strip. I wanted something slow acting so I had time to work with it. Well, I started with a squeeze bottle so I could control the amount I was putting on the hood and a Scotchbrite pad. Keeping the area I was working on fairly wet and only using the weight of the pad and my hand to move it around I noticed that it was only removing the silver paint. Needless to say that's exactly how it ended up working out. I was amazed. It looks just like an NOS hood would! It also made it easy to see the one little ding in the hood!!!!!!!
