Ive read threads, browsed websites on how it works, read tutorials but i still dont think im adjusting it right.

i got an 85 regal, stock v6 231, and stock 200 trans.

I need a good detailed explanation with pictures if possible on adjusting this.
Im afraid ive been doing it all wrong since my last rebuild and have caused damage to it.

But the trans shifts firm in colder weather but once its been drving for a while, starting and stopping, and getting warm it begins to take forever to switch into 1st and 2nd. Making that damaging loud whine switching to a gear, i hate it.

I dont wanna get it rebuilt just yet, its been rebuilt 3 times already.

Thanks for any help

Its really not all that dificult. What to do first is Depress the Gold anodized colored D shaped button/adjuster on the side of the throttle body (DS). Then, while pushing in button and holding, push the cable in toward the firewall until it bottoms out against the housing. Upon doing this, get into the car and remove your floormat (if you have one), then stomp on the accelerator pedal all the way to the floorboard. Then go out and recheck the position of the cable. It should have ratcheted out toward the radiator/front of car. This position is known as the GM factory recomended setting for the TV cable. Drive car and see how it shifts. If the shifts are too quick and not firm enough, push the cable back into housing (toward firewall) in very small increments until the desired shift ponts/firmness desired. I believe that one or two clicks is all it should take. I hope I explained it clearly. JOE:D

thanks for that reply, i first did what you said, sounded like it made one big click, which was prolly a couple in one big pull.

Ran it for a bit, it wasnt changing gears right, took a while for 1st and second.

Reworked it, instead putting 2 clicks in manually by pulling the throttle leve rmyself. Ran it, and its running sharp.

What i was doing before was, doin what you said but pulling the throttle lever in to where the black plugie thingie would come out like 4 clicks.

It seems that after driving about 5miles the trans starts shifting very late causing a loud whine leaving off of a red light. As if getting worn out or hot after a while. Pissin me off. Im thinking its the trans itself of torque converter. I dunno.

Sounds like ya did it right. Maybe it is the tranny or possibly a stretched or worn Tv cable. When you readjusted it with the two click toward firewall, did the cable stay put after mashing throttle to floor (WOT). If not, there could be a problem with cable. These are all things i have read concerning this cable/adjustment. The whining noise doesn't sound right though. GOOD LUCK! JOE
