Been through two ALKY tanks in the last year, now I want to try a 1 gallon cell in the engine compartment for my ALKY system. My battery is in the trunk so I figured I could go back to a stock style overflow and put a one gallon cell in the battery area. Anybody else try something similar? Can I look for aluminum cells or is that a no-no with Meth? Thanks, Scott

I did an install this summer. Friends car. Everything new right out of the box. Had a leaking tank as well. It's hard to get a good seal on the plastic tanks I guess. Even though I don't see anyone posting about this problem. I guess with as many as there are out there we just got a couple that just didn't seal!

Someone posted here a few months or so ago about a seamless tank that fits in the spare tire well. I searched. Couldnt find it.

Maybe that would be a better idea?

How about the tank for the spar tire location . Gbody sells them and i think metco makes them . Gbody has them on sell

OMG.. two tanks in one year?? You have warranty on it.. send it back and let the MFG deal with it.

Your first tank was like from 2004. I understand the early design as a hose was slipped over the nipple.. This one was built in May this year. So it has a compression style fitting. Whats causing the failure. Hose get yanked? If so.. the nipple will have a crack in it. If not.. then the compression may have settled causing the leak.

In 7 years doing this.. I can count on my hand how many tanks i've had sent back.

On a side note.. the 1 gallon Jaz looks a 100x better. Picture enclosed.. Dont mind the 2.3 Turbo

Julio, I know for a fact that you would take care of me. I think it's the weather changes that are making it leak lately. It's flippin cold here right now. It's leaking from the fitting that's covered with shrink tube. I might cut off the shrink and see what's up. I'm just thinking a different setup would be cool. With my battery in the trunk I have lots of options.
Question: Is the hose off the tank 6an? or an oddball size?
Thanks, Scott

When my old tank leaked it was due to a brass insert that doesn't quite extend into the tank. This provides a fulcrum that cracks the plastic nipple on the factory overflow tank. My newer tank hasn't leaked, so I don't know if there was a fix and I'm not cutting the shrink tubing to find out :D

-6. I usually put a bulkhead on it with a 1/4 npt. Then a /14 to -6 adapter on it. Same fitting thats on the Buick tank.

I need to test the tanks in the freezer :D

I am not using or have not used alky in my gn,but,we race jr dragsters and use alcohol/methanol all season long and our fuel tanks dont leak,..www.jrracecars.com makes a billet one that is real nice, they are a little small but maybe they would work for you guys?...Just a thought...

Update: I removed the shrink tube and tightened the compression fitting maybe 1/4 turn. So far it's not leaking, so pretty easy fix. I still want to do the 1 or 2 gallon fuel cell in the engine compartment but it's certainly no longer a priority.

Cant use aluminum and let methanol sit inside of it.

Most racing apps drain after a weekend of use and flush their systems.

Great.. keep me updated :D

Is it safe to have 1 - 2 gallons of alky in the front of the car like that? Something about that makes me uneasy.

2 of the 3 systems in my friends cars leak in the same place you mention and they ask me why I use so much meth...they think I am leaking too.

One used a plastic candle like repair stick from a ski shop - do not recall what the proper name of the repair stuff is but it seems like any ski shop will be able to get it. The plastic melts and drips onto the area to be built up.

Probably a lot safer than driving with skinnies on the street :D
