i think i have lots of turbo problems if i floor the car it pins the 20lb boost gauge and starts missing real bad. if i ease into it it will stay at 16lbs and run good. im new to this car i dont have any idea on what i need to do. i also noticed that its leaking oil out of the 90 going up to the intercooler. its has a stock turbo with a bigger intercooler kenne bell chip and 42 lb injectors. it also has what i think is a manual boost controller. the car sat for a while and my wife bought it for me so i never got to talk to the guy about it

do yourself a favor - before you blow up the car - DONT FLOOR THE CAR 'TIL YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!!
...with that said get all your gauges / info, do you spring cleaning, read.... read.... clean.... read..... use the search feature.... read...then read some more. hth

Spring clean, scan tool and read, read and ask. There's a wealth of info to keep you running well with out blowing up and being unhappy.

And I would recommend taking out that old Kenne Bell chip and replacing it as soon as possible with a modern chip, that chip withtodays gas equals trouble, theres too much timing in that chip, you will blow a headgasket like that!

Find someone nearby (NJ right?) that has/knows TR's and have them help you take the first steps. It sounds like you are running lean and that leads to head gasket replacement.

Make sure if you get someone to help you they have a scan tool of some kind.

It sounds like you are over boosting. Get a gauge that reads to 30lbs. Get rid of that KB chip as mentioned above. It has way too much timing in it. Get a TurboTweak chip. Get a scan tool, either Direct Scan or Powerlogger and do a lot of reading. Stay out of the throttle until you know what you are doing.

what would cause it to overboost i have the knob on the boost control turned all the way in. i have another stock turbo that is new that came with the car. should i change it out when i get the new chip?

A lot of things can cause overboosting, a stuck wastegate, missadjusted wastegate actuator, a leaking hose going to the actuator, bad boost controller, ect. Over boosting is a relative term. You could be running too much boost for the amount of timing you are using or the octane of the gas. You could also be having ignition break down when you get over a certain amount of boost which will also make it run poorly above a certain amount of boost. Post your combo. As far as oil in the up pipe, could be from the breather pipe if it's still connected to the inlet of the turbo or it could be coming from the turbo itself which means it may need replacing.

first DO THE SPRING CLEANING... then verify fuel pressure, food good measure - u probably should drop the fuel tank. install new pump and hotwire[if not yet installed] - change your fuel filter... etc

i plan on doing the spring cleaning. its still a little cold outside to mess with it now. my fuel pressure gauge under the hood is showing about 43 lbs at idle if i rev it up it goes to about 50. it does have a differnt fuel pump installed. i havent driven it since it started screwing up. i just want to know what i should be looking for. ive only put 20 miles on it the first time i drove it it ran real good

^ should say FOR good measure... [i'm on my phone... autofill is annoying sometimes ]

Make sure your running fresh 93. If there is oil in the intercooler and it's mixing with the air/fuel it will lower the octane level and add to detonation too. When your doing the spring cleaning make sure to check all the vacuum lines and replace any that are dried out and brittle. With some patience and maintainance you'll learn about your car and probably find many issues that are causing the miss.

i had the same issues..my stock turbo was blowing oil into the intercooler big time...replaced turbo and the boost spiked when I got into it...solved the problem with a billet boost controller...the clickable adjustability makes it easy for a guy like me who has the worst luck in the world, and would have probably blown it up b4 I knew what was going on...first item on list in the spring is cleaning out the intercooler..i'm sure its full of oil...

Call me i am fairly close to you mabe this weekend i could give you a hand gives me a reason to take the GN out if you have 42's in the car we could swap my ship in and see if it cures some of your problems 609 334 7974 Achilleas if it's not raining or snowing

thank you but im wont be available for the next couple of weekends. i think i have 32lb injectors i found a recipt that says they installed a tomco setup. so i looked up the numbers on them and the say they a 30 or 32 lb i forget. all i know is they have agreen stripe and theyve been on there for a while. i got a new tt chip ordered today now i just goin to get plugs and wires and probly put the other turbo on. hopefully it works when im done
