Please be aware. There is a band of thieves that is targeting Buick Grand Nationals in the South Florida area and is planning to go further North in search of one. The following listed below is the way that they target the victims:

The thieves target their victims is usually by checking the auto-trader for Buick Grand Nationals for sale, then the thieves contacting the person selling the car pre-tending to be interested in buying the car. They ask when can they go by and see the car, when they show up to check the car what they are really doing is checking out the place were the car is stored, the conditions, and the accessibility (they usually will make a very low offer that they know there is no way that the people will take, and then walk away.) Then they came later and take the car.
Don’t just ignore this warning because your car is not for sale, they also take the cars of opportunity. For example if they are going to look at a GN listed on auto trader and along the way they happen to see one that is easy to take they may just grab that one instead of the one they were originally going for. This is straight from the horses’ mouth.

Someone down in the South Florida area had a similar situation he almost made the mistake of giving his address out, but he didn’t when he told the person on the phone to meet him at a public place, not at his “house" they lost interest and hung-up.

This band of thieves usually gets what they go after, and the worst part is that they have access to a tow-truck and a good place to conceal the cars that is not visible.

It has also been told to me that they will be traveling up north to Central Florida to get a car this weekend and possibly further north too. Please pass this info to your friends.

A few things that are a good idea when selling your car are to get the license plate number of whatever vehicle the buyer is driving, descriptions of people and record any phone numbers that call about the car.

With the warning you gave, it would be a good idea to get the VIN of the car they are driving. Have someone hang out in this local place and get the info while YOU are out driving them around in the car.

Thanks for the heads up...

wow, that's a detailed desription.....how many TR's you got so far?

I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for this warning Shane, my dad's GN was stolen from our driveway down here years ago and I know of several others down here that have had theirs stolen as well.

Motivated by the new Fast and Furious movie???? At least in Florida, you have the Castle Doctrine. GPS trackers are a great tool.

Sweet....

The Florida "Castle Doctrine" law basically does three things:

One: It establishes, in law, the presumption that a criminal who forcibly enters or intrudes into your home or occupied vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm, therefore a person may use any manner of force, including deadly force, against that person.

Two: It removes the "duty to retreat" if you are attacked in any place you have a right to be. You no longer have to turn your back on a criminal and try to run when attacked. Instead, you may stand your ground and fight back, meeting force with force, including deadly force, if you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to yourself or others. [This is an American right repeatedly recognized in Supreme Court gun cases.]

Three: It provides that persons using force authorized by law shall not be prosecuted for using such force.

It also prohibits criminals and their families from suing victims for injuring or killing the criminals who have attacked them.

In short, it gives rights back to law-abiding people and forces judges and prosecutors who are prone to coddling criminals to instead focus on protecting victims.

you know there was a stolen GN in north miami, about a month ago.( poor guy) i wonder what ever happened to him, wonder if he's heard anything about the car? thanks again for the heads up SGRIM, i will definetly tell the other guys down here to make sure they read this post. Great info. i hate car thieves i had ine stolen years ago and never saw it again, i wish i knew about this board back then. Lo-jack guys-- we all are willing to spend crazy amounts on our cars, but want to rely on a alarm, which is great if you can hear it but in case of a tow-truck the only chance you have of seeing your car again is with a tracking device. I don't work for lo-jack ( union elevator mechanic-local 71) but i sleep better knowing i have it. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HEADS-UP

If mine actually runs when they try to steal it then they can have it - the chances of winning the lottery are better.

Be CAREFUL!!!!!! They can back up to it and have it in a transport van in less than 45 seconds. It is AMAZING how fast a criminal can part you with your car. In our area, some Perp's got a guys COMPLETE garage full of hot rod stuff. They came in and took EVERYTHING, and NO one saw anything!!!! It takes longer for you to throw your jammies on and grab your shot gun. It really hacks me off that they get away with this. In Washington state, we do NOT have Grand Theft Auto. You are charged with "Driving a vehicle with out the owners explicit concent". It takes OVER 10 cars to be stolen by an individual, before they spend any measureable amount of time. Heaven forbid you WHACK a thief in the head if you catch him/her trying to steal your car. They WILL put you in jail for that, here. Poor crack head.......they didn't know that wasn't their car. They were "confused".
I had a Toyota Truck stolen out of my driveway a few years ago. The cops found it in a neighboring city. It had been sold to illegal immigrants, and they used it to deliver newspapers.
Also, be leary of towing companies. Some of their employees are involved, too. Around here, newspaper delivery people are HEAVILY involved in car theft. Well, at least they drive newspaper cars. They can drive around all hours of the night and report who is and who isn't alert. They will also hang out in your neighborhood and take notes on who is up at what times, and when you leave. They are NOT amatures. I chased a guy down in my neighborhood a few days prior to them stealing the truck in my driveway. It's a well controlled ring. NOT always opportunists, taking your car just for a joy ride. (though that happens, too.)
The weeks prior to our street being hit, they would stand in peoples driveways and watch who came and went. A neighbor had cigarette butts all around his garage door in the morning, for about a week. He thought it was just a neighbor kid, and blew it off. Then they hit. They took my sons truck, and broke into most of the cars on the street that didn't have an alarm. They also broke into another neighbors garage and stole MANY thousands of dollars of suff. Tools, guns, ammo, collectables...ect. His garage is attatched to the house. They KNEW the alarm was set on the house door, but not on the garage door. I HATE thiefs! I work hard for everything I have. It is NOT thiers to take!!!!!!

I was joking. I wouldn't want the car stolen.

Most of the time the GN is up on the lift with my daily driver parked under it. It would be impossible to get at the GN at night without someone knowing about it. During the day there's always someone in the house or the neighbors' houses. The good thing about suburban sprawl is that I can look out my front door and count about 13 other houses in my field of vision. Everyone knows what everyone else is doing. My wife's friends know when I'm on a business trip because they'll notice that the Caddy hasn't come and gone like it usually does. Someone else, who lives on another street, can see me washing my car at the wee hours of the morning (says I'm insane). Sometimes having nosy neighbors is good.

Shane thanks for posting this info.

Maybe one day someone will take the liberty of putting a rusty bondo bucket, but nicely painted GN on Autotrader for theif bait. And then park it in a secluded area away from homes, businesses, etc.

When the thieves come in the middle of the night to steal the car, it would be like on the movie Swordfish....when the guy turned the key to start the car to drive it away, it would instead activate a block of C4 with ball bearings for shrapnel.

The only good thief is a dead thief.

Is it Grand National ONLY? or T-types too? How soon before the hit new england?

Shane was just trying to help out the Florida guys.,,,,,,,,,, Man there is one in every crowd isn't there. You just pissed cause your Pats got their ass kicked last weekend or what?

LOL Just breakin your balls on the Pats! Have a great night.

Why don't the cops or whoever setup a sting:confused: Put a high dollar GN in the paper for sale in a normal neighborhood and invite prospective buyers to the home for inspections, they should be able to feel out the people that come to see the car , then just wait for their return at night and bust them:biggrin:

i'm sure the hard part will be finding someone who will put-up their car as bait.
alot of guys say they would but they don't step forward. then again maybe i'm wrong

The bait car sounds like a great idea. Except I would use a rust bucket and then bondo it up/paint it up to look good. Maybe even clone a GN from an old clapped out Regal. That way if need be you could go after the criminals and not worry about destroying a good GN.
