My 05 Duramax Allison transmission broke on me.... She is out and on a pallet going to Extreme Automatics for some beef to beat put in her!

Can't wait for my rebuild, time to BOOST the power now!

You can make a ton of power with those trucks. Good buddy of mine has one that makes over 600rwhp. We'll be doing looking at doing intercoolers for those next year. Great trucks!

Shane, if you don't mind me asking, what broke? Phil.

Nice to know Lonnie does those to....one day mine will need an upgrade...

New triple disc converter and the works on the way soon! I don't think I will ever get close to the 1000ft lbs trq limit:D:D

An allison broke??? I thought that was the strong part of the truck and was indestructable.

Me too! Usually it the box on the side or solnoids, seen em go 300k!

Yes, it is odd... The dealer I took it too to confirm it was bad said the same thing.... It probably has 25-35k of it miles pulling a Buick around:D Other than that just my heavy foot nothing should have hurt it. Stock no mods.... Had it serviced as scheduled at the dealership... All they could figure is I had a bad original part, a clutch, that just "broke" and I toasted it limping home... I thought it was just in limp modeo_O

Just emailed Lonnie this morning to see what he found on the inside, I will keep this updated....

My 06' LBZ was dead at 65K miles...I had a minor tune in it however I drove it normally...would go into "limp" mode pretty easily. Honestly, I was very unimpressed w/ the Allison...at least in factory form. stock Ford tranny's hold up much better in the Diesels w/ very heavy mods.
will be interested to see how it performs when lonnie gets his hands on it though :)

Really ? limp mode in a LBZ ? there is no DFI filter in a LBZ , that and the tune make's it the most desirable of the D-MAX to date, ('06 to mid yr '07)... the Ford trans is no where close in comparison... granted you don't want to go over 100hp (over stock) on a stock Allison it still support's 650lb torque stock.

Really TTA308...had a PPE tuner in the truck and drove it very normal 98% of the time...I was shocked as well. It hated the any shifts above 3rd gear if you were into it and would limp....and slip. they are great in stock form, just can't handle any power adders w/o a rebuild. Stock 08' up Ferds are running 250 HP Spartan tunes all day w/ stock trannys, I was just a bit disappointed and sharing my $.02. The Dmax motor was great though.

The Fords can run the power with no limp mode, but do destroy themselves in no time. I have had no issues with my Allisons. I had 60,000 miles on a LB7 running high 13's on a 150hp tune, my LB7 Dually ran high 14's with 90,000 miles no problem, and now my 2011 2500 has a 500rwhp tune, and has run 13.72@98 with a bone stock trans weighing 7400lbs. The Allison is the strongest. Just because the Ford and Dodge trucks don't have limp mode, doesn't mean they aren't getting hurt. The Fords have the worst transmission (and engines time will tell how the 6.7 is, but the 6.0 and the 6.4 are junk in the long term).

I understand what you are saying but i really think there was something wrong in your set-up/ or tune.. or maybe someone had a bad day on the line  when it rolled off, stranger things have happened ....

OK guys...Im not trying to start a war, sorry I said anything. guess I just had a bad Allison. Honestly I am back to my old, slow 7.3 anyways and their dogs so I no longer have any worries :) I agree about the 6.4's for longevity & the 6.7's from what I am reading are having their fair share of problems.

I did see one that would lose reverse in a new truck back in 2008 at the GMC dealer. Gm had me put a valvebody,Tcm,then finally they had me go into it and replace the rear piston and cover and check it over. I found no problem anywhere and the truck was from Canada so they took it back with the problem still and drove home..never heard how it turned out either.
