alum. fan shroud

hello people; I s/b getting my spal fans from alradco today but do you think a alum. shroud cound be a heat sink also? Maybe thats good but since the stock one isn't and I havn't seen any alum shrouds on any stock car out there it had me thinking. If that's the case maybe just a plain un powdercoated one is the way to go?

There is no way to get enough mass on a fan shroud to make it a heat sink. Alum or Stainless is used for shrouds all the time.
 
You'll love the fans. I'm looking forward to the summer when I can actually use the a/c thanks to them.
 
hello people; What do you think? The fan shroud is bolted to the rad witch gets hot don't you think the heat would transfer to the alum. I do and I'll let you know more this summer. Maybe that could be a good thing. Like evrything under the hood of turbo car it can get really hot under there.

Well let me explain to you why nobody will be able to answer your question. Our fans do not bolt to the radiator. The fans bolt to the radiator support...which is insulated with rubber from the radiator. It bolts to the core support on the bottom...which also is insulated with rubber from the radiator. If yours bolts to the radiator...your the exception.
Now even if your car is overheating...your still gonna be able to touch your core support or radiator support plate...why??? Because our cars are crossflow radiators. The tanks are on the sides, not the top and bottom. Your not transferring heat from side mounted tanks to a top and bottom mounted alum shroud...I don't care who says you are. The shroud is gonna be just as warm as anything else in the engine compartment and no warmer....plus our engines only run between 170-180 degrees...that's nothing compared to other engines.
