I had my 87 GN parked next to my friend's brand new Monte SS.
The paint on my car id still good on the side but checked badly on the top. Most people would say it looks real good from the side.

Walking toward the 2 cars, I COULD NOT believe how much blacker the new Monte SS looked than my car. It made mine look grayish/charcoal. It was absolutely amazing....
and humbling.....no, depressing!

Looks like a new paint job is going to become more of a priority, but I was really wondering if the new kinds of paint and techniques were responsible.

You had to see it to believe it...

i read the subject line coming into the lounge and couldn't help but laugh. i have nothing to add to your post other than i thought the subject line was funny, that is all, good day. :D

I remember when I had my '96 WaveVenture painted black. My painter told me I was wrong when I said "black is black, right?" "Wait till you see Lexus black!" I was skeptical but after it was done and hooked up behind the GN (yes, it had a trailer hitch!) the GN looked brown by comparison.

The black GM used on my Avalanche and the wife's Trailblazer are really, really black. Looks good.

Peterkin, don't worry. You're black enough. LOL!

BTW - Where've you been? You've gotta come help me do some tunin' with my Trans+. Gimme a ring, you crazy fool!

Oh, and about the topic at hand. There are definitely different shades of black. The Blue/Blacks look the best, IMO.

Fading certainly factors into the equation after a while. I may do a repaint on mine soon, and I can't make up my mind whether to go with a sharper looking black, or to keep it original apearing. Tough decision.
