being they where on so many of the hub cap white wall wearing brick of choice for the old folks through out buicks history, (they still live on with the lucerne :p ) , i just think they look cheap and plastiky on the cool looking body profile of the turbobuicks, especially with our hood bulge's and spoilers. i think they actually take away from the muscle look of the gnx, and when ever i see them added to a reg turbobuick, i think to myself "ugh! why'd you do that?" they may be "functional", but be real, they put them on there for looks.

i bet no one on this board will agree with me, but i guess it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same thing eh?

and this is coming from a guy thats put splash guards on just about every car he's owned.

I think they need the flares to offset them, they HAVE to be color matched to the car, and the car shouldn't have any chrome. They are supposed to accent the car, not detract. I'm very finicky as well with what I think looks good for our cars.

vents

Everywhere around here is old people or the getto. I see them on pickup trucks, cars, shopping carts, etc. Always a wanna be that puts accessories on to make up for the fact that the car is not worth crap. When a TR is done as long as it is done professionally with the gnx style they are alright. It is the hackers that install them ugly porthole vents or some knock of vents incorrectly.The vents that came on the GNX looks correct and should be left that way. Like TNX said the flares help offset the style and if you don't have them the vents stick out like sore thumbs.;

louvers & flares = Love & Hate

This is intresting! I have totally mixed feelings about the fender louvers & wheel well flares myself. And have seen them on alot of TR's over the years and really never thought twice about them.

I personally think that the fender flares will NEVER look right without the rims matching the correct off-set that the original GNX rims were! (The sunk in look don't cut it for me!)

What about the people like me who bought the car with the louvers already cut in??
To get rid of them I would have to replace both front fenders.
Paint both front fenders.

In my book thats ALOT of extra cost just for a LOOK!
So I decided to leave them on but paint them to match the color of the car. Then I have another trick up my sleave to make it alittle different here shortly as money builds up again..

Your car pulls it off, white is very forgiving in that sense, the chrome doesn't contrast as bad as it does on darker cars.

I chose hyperknight SLP ZR1 wheels, which already looked too sunken in, so I had to get Skulte Wheels spacers to fill the wheel wells. But yeah, you have to have the right stance or the flares don't work either. I thought about buying GNX knock offs and having the webbing painted dark garnet red, but I never really liked those wheels in the first place so I went with the ZR1's. These cars are hands down the hardest car to pick a great wheel for, I swear.

Right now my design dilemma is do I put on the hood badges or not? I love the hood badges and already have them, but if I'm trying to pull off a masquarade of "The car that should have been built..." then I think I have to stick with the total GNX theme and just have the grill and trunk badge.

Ultimately though, you build the car you want and say to hell with others opinions. When I finally finish mine I want to hear every one's opinion, good and bad, respectfully, of course. :D

I like them on Buicks old and new but they have become the cheezy, PEP Boys, bling bling add on of choice amongst the poser crowd. They put them on ANYTHING and it always looks like ****. Saw an older Lexus recently with an add on hood scoop, oval shaped vents on the fenders and ALSO oval shaped vents on the hood. I guess they've got something pretty wild under the hood to need that kind of ventilation.

I dont care too much for the louvers on our cars but too each your own! I really dont like them when they are different coloring than the car. Now if you are talking old school louvers, I like em!

I think that it is an ok thing. sence Buick has had lovers on most of there cars. It is a trade mark. Most newer cars have lost them little things that made them in thier day. So ya i like them.:)
