another 1 - 2 shift problem thread

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem. But it is just getting more and more frustrating.

87GN. 2004r with two years and 15k miles on rebuild. TCI shift kit, billet super servo, Borg-Warner bands and clutches

Heavy duty wide band, Heavy duty band anchor, Heavy Duty direct drum, Modified 2800 stall D5 torque converter,
Deep pan with modified 200r4/700r4 filter, Cooler, Factory positraction.


At WOT or part throttle, first gear rpms climb and the engine sings as if is in neutral (or tranny slipping) until about the stall speed of the converter, then I "think" it shifts to second gear, then 3rd gear as normal, then OD (or 4th). I can definitely feel each shift.

However, directscan is telling me that I am going from 1st to 3rd, and I never see the 4th gear parameter? (it also is showing me the p/n parameter, so I don't know if my directscan is possesed or not).
 
look if you want to be sure the 2nd gear band is not working just do this:put the car in manual 3rd or d3 position and get it up to 45 mph.put the lever in manual 2 or d2 .does the car go back to first gear or second?if it goes to first the band isnt holding period.if the 1/2 shift valve is stuck you wont get third gear so its the band.now to be able to diagnose problems like a pro you may want to get a copy of our 200 page 2004r transmission manual.it covers EVERYTHING on the transmission.

third or second?
 
if the 1/2 is stuck you wont get 2nd gear.but if you put the car in d2 on the lift and run it up to 30 mph you can check for opening of the shift valve by verifying the presence of oil pressure at the servo cover by pushing in on it with a prybar.if you can push in the cover there is 2nd gear apply oil present at the servo meaning the shift valve has opened but the band cannot apply because it is burnt or broken or the servo is damaged
 
Sorry Chris, but unless I woke up even more dense than normal, I think the typo gremlins got to your last post too...

Don't you mean "If you can't push in the cover there is 2nd gear apply oil present at the servo"?
