I'm getting reports of cars getting rejected because of a warning to all smog inspectors not to pass cars with any hoses attached in the intake or air cleaner inlet. So that means no alky installations allowed without out a referee inspecting & approving the device. Don't go in for a smog inspection with the hose connected to the inlet pipe or you will get rejected. My guess is that they are specifically targeting NOS systems. In actuality alcohol sprayed into the engine has a cooling effect & suppresses detonation & reduces NOX & H.C which is a good thing. So I don't know why they would have a problem approving that. But the easiest thing to do is just disconnect it.

Thanks Lou for that valuable info. ;)

By the way I was at work when you called today, sorry I wasn't there to see you doing the splits while bleeding brakes all by yourself. Damn, you must be sore. lol

What a drag, You were more fun before you decided to go back to work.

Thanks for the heads up Lou. I guess I'll leave my cars registered in Florida when I move back to the West Coast within the next year..... Gotta love these tree hugging EPA guys. Can't wait until these cars are antiques:wink:

When do you think that will happen? My car's already 25 years old. Maybe we need to start some legislation for our TRs.

That won't ever happen as the discontinuation of the rolling calendar quit at the year '73 or '74 as a rider on the bill that allowed for new cars to go 6 years before requiring a smog test, and that's not the worst. The worst is that last year ('07) the great Republik of Kalifornification tried to pass a bill that all cars 15 years and older up to the last year of the rolling calendar will be required to smog annually. Fortunately, they ran out of time to present the bill. I heard that it did pass the floor. Look fro them to pass and enforce that one of these days.

I hear you Lou, I hate just about everything about CA except for the good weather and great friends I'v had the pleasure to meet. I'll take you advice about the two address's:wink:

I've traveled to China and India over the last few years. Polution there on most days is so bad it makes your eyes and chest burn.

A lot of the polution over California and the US (estimated 30% or more from the study I saw) floats in from these two country's.

With that said....there isn't another tree hugging law that the phycho-green thugs can pass that will make even the slightest bit of difference in the polution in our air until China and India get busy cutting down on their emissions.

Seriously maintain an address in Fla. & have your mail forwarded to CA. I would even keep your Fla. drivers license & Fla voter registration & that's how you get around that.I have studied the laws & you have the perfect situation.

i dont know if its the same but here in az i had my 87 t classified as a classic car by my ins. company state farm and the car no longer gos to smog i jus pay for tags when there due and my ins. is way cheaper 25.00 a month full coverage

You don't have Barbra Boxer, Diane Fienstien & their bunch as your senators either. Plus your state isn't 41 billion in the hole as a result of bad politically correct policy's.Our smog program is ran as another tax collection device but called a fee on top of the rest of the fee's. Plus it employs people that I refer to as private sector drop outs that couldn't make it in the real world of business.

Don, isn't alternative fuel "exempt" ?? :)

I checked into that at one time. If I remember right, there was some loophole in the requirements.

hey guys, this is mark. I'm trying to look for the loophole, but all I found so far is that if we use meth or alky we must have a anti siphoning device installed. I'm still reading up looking for that alternative fuel loop. http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vc.htm so much to read its going to take me a while here. I'll try to catch up during econ 210 class today, sense we don't get to actually talk about our economy of today; such as the first bail out bill or this second bail out bill which obama supported and pushed for both, along with bush and clinton supporting both too.

Something about a requirement that a certain number or percentage of your fleet of vehicles must be converted. It didn't appear to be written for the individual consumer. More for companies with fleets of vehicles. Let me know if you dig up something different.

In a nutshell, CA doesnt want your old car here, they want you to buy new ones to increase sales tax and license fee incomes. Plus you pay dearly to not have your >6yo car smogged.
Its all about money.

And that newbie CA rep in Sac that keeps submitting that old car annual smog bill is a con artist. His last attempt he took a bill outlining new divorce court proceedings that had passed all approval stages but one, gutted it and replaced the verbage with the old car smog bill. Thank SEMA for catching it.

thats why only daily drivers are titled in Ca

all my buicks and old cars are titled in AZ,
in northern Az, no smog, and $31 for 2 yrs tags!
I moan and groan to the wife, were being taxed to death in CA.
I know. if I don't like it- move, I will, believe me , I will,
not quite ready yet. but soon.

OH, HI Mark!
