I know that most of the racing enthusiasm with the TB members is drag racing but I was wondering if any of y'all out there are members of the iRacing simulation.
I ask because it might be fun to setup some online sessions if anyone is interested. If you aren't sure what iRacing is, it is a massively multi-player racing simulation that includes oval and road racing. Evidently there was talk of integrating a drag strip and rally in it but thus far, no dice.
The sim is extremely sophisticated and is used extensively worldwide as a training and practice tool for pro racers. (Dale JR comes to mind as one of the more prominent members). They have Rolex-Grand Am Series, NASCAR(all kinds from modified to Cup), SCCA, Silver Crown, Legends cars(which are a TON of fun) and more I can't think of.
Even though I have been simracing for a very long time, my success has been limited by a genetic lack of talent so if anyone is intrigued by this I can show you the ropes (I think they're offering some promotion that is free for a couple of months). In a week or two, you'll be running circles around me! It's especially fun in the winter when theres not as much to do.

they been talking about that for years but I just dont see the demand.

my buddy is a big IRacer but I just cant get into going round and round in circles for hours in the Nascar version. sounds boring to me.

the F1 cars racing around something other then a roundy round track sounds pretty kool tho. although you need to spend a few hundred dollars to get the proper steering wheel and foot pedals to make it worth playing.

they also have a true simulator machine but its several thousand dollars. sounds very kool tho.

Yeah, a good wheel / pedal setup is vital since this is not a like an Xbox game where you can drive with a control pad or joystick (who wants to drive a car like that anyway??)

The Logitech G37 (I think thats the model) is a very nice wheel but it will set ya back about $200.

I have a handmade TSW wheel that I've had for about 15 years. Over the years, I have sent it back for upgrades as computer technology changed (serial ports changed to USB, more precise potentiometers, etc)

The F1 class would be fun but you must graduate to that license level to get to race with the real hot shoes out there. That being said, even the lower classes with the Miata's and Formula Fords are extremely challenging and competitive.
