Trying to sort out why my WE4 is getting horrible gas mileage. It runs ok and looks to be mostly stock. It has a Hyper Tech (c) part no.41 372 chip and what appears to be stock injectors. Anyone know anything about this chip?

It is ancient technology with higher than stock timing levels that do not agree with today's crappy gas. I have one just like it in the garage, same part number. Hell I just noticed you're in tulsa. I'll be there in about three weeks if you need some help, it would keep me out of the casino for a little while. :D I have another one or two chips for stock injectors I could bring but it's probably not the chip.

Some things that would help diagnose:

Do you have a scan tool and what are your BLM #s reading?

Define horrible. Is it 2 or 12 mpg?

Write down the numbers off the injectors and post them here. Also note any identifying marks (colored stripes/bands or colored tops). Bigger injectors with that chip (which is for stock injectors) would make it run piggy rich.

Does it have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? And can you get a fuel pressure reading for us? Should be low 40's at idle with the vac line unhooked from it.

Can you smell fuel out the exhaust?

Is your trans getting into OD for sure and is the torque converter locking?

This could be just the beginning if something doesn't jump out with the above tests.

Also you should either have this thread moved to general tech or start a new thread there. It will get more attention there.

hope this helps. And I am serious about stopping by the hard rock hotel down there in less than a month. I could bring my scan tool/laptop and a fuel pressure gauge and some other stuff I've got laying around. Might be able to locate the problem.

Sounds like you actually should start asking for help, that sounds like a self destruct setup.

Let us know...... BOOOOOOOOM... What was that?

Looks like a nonadjustable regulator, fuel pressure is 40 psi. Is BLM the same as bL on the scanmaster? bL is 150 at idle after car is warmed up and Int
fluctuates between 125 and 135. I posted these in the other thread. Exhaust smells rich not extreme but you can smell it. Can't really see any numbers on the injectors will try to get a better look when go to work tomorrow. Thanks for the help and I might take you up on the offer. I am still learning about these cars. Which is why I haven't been standing on it. I bought in Oct. 09 it had no scanmaster, cluster not working and suspension and brakes needed work. fixed all the above and fuel sending unit wasn,t working so didn,t have and a fuel gauge until last week and drove it all week all highway and it is getting about 15 mpg. I am mechanic at a Ford dealership so working on the car is no problem just learning how to diagnose this thing.

I will gladly look the car over with you when i'm down there. If nothing else we can look for other non stock parts so you know what you have. Not that I'm the foremost expert but i've been crawling around under the hood of mine for a few years now. I can bring my laptop and actually log some data VS look at it one parameter at a time. Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? Is the wastegate rod adjustable?

Does it hold fuel pressure in the rail after you shut it off or does it drop rapidly? Could be a tell tale sign of a bad injector. I have a stock maf or 2 and a handful of barely used 02 sensors, coil/module, ecm, etc I can bring with me just in case.

Number on the injector top is 927 and then at the base of the top is 280 150
218. The ignition module was replaced right before I bought it, wastegate actuator is not adjustable and holds fuel pressure after shut off.

Forgot it has an Autometer boost gauge. Does anyone have a used chip that would work better than the one I have that they want to sell?

There's really only two choices if you want a modern chip: Turbotweak, or the commander/extender series made by Bailey engineering and sold through fullthrottlespeed. Bite the bullet and go one of those routes. They have user programmable features and lots of positive feedback.

Brandy new TurboTweak 5.6 chip burned for your exact setup = $85. Exactly much do you expect to save on a 'used' chip? Come on now....

Get a Turbo tweak chip and be done. The timing in teh pold chips are set up for teh old 93 that had a lil more pep and the idle quality, warm up, tip in stumble, etc issues are light years ahead now

I just looked up these numbers and found that they are stock injectors. Could they be the original injectors (never replaced)? Gosh, how many miles are on the odometer?
