Just curious if anybody has raced the SRT8 6.1. Or for that matter the 5.7. Just curious how anybody stacked up.

beat a srt8 from a ~10mph role. See sig for mods. They are damn fast though.

Yeah, I figured the 6.1 was fast. Just wanted to know what I need to do to beat one. Your mod list helps me out. Thanks

The wife has a bone stock 2009 SRT8 6.1 Challenger. It does the quarter in 13.7 at 104 MPH (with an awful 2.0 60' time) Supposed to do 13.3's. It's fast but NOT faster than my nearly stock GN.

I haven't raced one, but I do sell them! Depending on conditions, low to mid 13's for SRT8s, and mid to high 13's for 5.7 cars are normal at 98 to 106 mph. Few GN's are truly stock anymore, but the fastest times for showroom stock GN's were in the 13.8 range at 98 mph, more or less, back in 87. The same GN in stock form in the heat could be a 14-15 second car, also. Keep in mind that the new Mopars are far faster on top end than any street GN. A stock SRT8 will see 168-173 mph at top end, and that tells you that you want to race one from a stop or slow roll. Roll out on it, beat the crap out of it, then call it a race before the Hemi rolls around you around 125 or so. A typical GN with a stock rev band will be wide open in 3rd gear at around 115mph or so. After that, it's Overdrive all the way. Our cars do their best work in a drag race encounter rather than a top end situation. Rudy.

I have both ('87 WE4 and '09 SRT 6-speed). The Buick is stock block with typical upgrades (TA49, TT chip, etc.); the Challenger is basically stock except for a CAI and 295 Nitto Invos on the rear. I agree with counterman's assessment - the Buick is quicker with a slight rollout - the Hemi takes some RPMs to get into the power band. You really need traction - the traction control on the Challenger is pretty effective and you don't have to back out of it. Much past 1/4 mile the Challenger will walk past you if your car is set up similar to mine. I hope this helps.

Raced an SRT 8 300 last night from 55 he had me by a car but couldn't pull away but I couldn't rope him either from a light I got him by 4 cars till I shut it down at 95mph

good to know... all in all our cars remain respectable with an engine about 1/2 the size. Time for a 6-speed auto to be offered for the Buicks to help up top:confused:

It has a good mid as well as top and some good torque. I have an 09 Charger with a 5.7 Police Package with Long tube headers, K&N cold air, no cats, and a Predator tune.

Put down like 370 to the wheels and have gone 155 mph with another 10 mph left likely. Ran out of road actually. I upped the speed limiter to 175 but it aint goin that fast obviously unless it was the 6.1. It rips on the top end tho. Handles and brakes incredibly for a DD.

MDS is shut off. Runs on 8 all the time now.

SRT8 Challenger

Hi,
The guy living down the street from my shop has one of these badboys, and it has some sort of performance exhaust on it, and maybe more mods.He knows I have a stable of turbo Buicks at my place, so he puts the hammer down when in my vicinity. I take my somewhat tame Regal out occasionally, and put the boost on past his place. I think it would be a good street race, but I'm not gonna take my Regal up to 100 to prove a point.Especially on city streets.
You know, the cars now a days are too fast, and the old muscle has been supplanted by these fire breathing monsters that run quarters in the low 12s right out of the box. I don't think the SRT8 is quite there, but It,and the vette, and camaro, and magnum are getting crazy fast.Who knows what the next iteration will bring?

I know my GN isn’t faster than the new challenger and there are a lot of new cars fast out of the box but I don’t think we will be seeing any new cars any time soon that will have the reputation a t-Buick has . When I go to car shows with the GN I love hearing all the urban legends about the GN. I don’t think you will ever see the new or next generation of fast cars get that kind of notoriety. I was pumping gas and had a 5.7 srt pull up beside me I asked him how he liked it and asked if it was fast he said its fast but nothing like your car is. I beat him without ever leaving the pump he thought for sure he would lose if we raced just because I had a GN.

I hear ya. A guy in an 87 Monte with a stroker engine on NOS was convinced he would never win just because I had a GN. They do have a reputation and it is a GM legend.

Yes, I beat one (red) with my '69 Vette. Nice race, of course, illegal, and beat him good.(SRT8) I wish I had my GN on the road at that time (month of April) to see what it could do against the Challenger. Boy, they are nice looking cars, aren't they? Great design. Cudos for Chrysler, love to have one but I'll always be loyal to the Turbo Regal...they are the boss legend car for me. Some of you guys here on the forum have some of the fastest, nastiest Turbo Buicks I've ever seen or read about. Pretty sure you could eat those Challengers with them. I'd bet on it. Good job, guys.:wink:

Same with me. My friend has a Black on black 08 Challenger 6.1 w/6 speed. He wont race or even fool around because he hears everyone talk about the 2 GN's in town, mine and my buddy Kevin. My car is low 12's / high 11 at best, but Kevins is 11 flat / high 10 and he drives it all the time. Thats why I want a White T, no one will suspect a thing from a white Regal...little do they know.

I have '10 R/T. It moves pretty good, but it's just too damn heavy. 376hp + 4200lb. = :o

I didn't buy it for the performance though. I wanted the muscle car look without the muscle car price. If I wanted performance, I would have bought a Camaro.

now thats bad ass

yup, then you spank them and they keep looking at the hood for some reason. Like "3.8 litre sfi turbo" is some riddle.

Also, cops never look twice at white regals...

Only thing I have is against the SRT8 Jeep Cherokee's, I walked that thing at only 20psi really bad a few weeks ago. It's heavy though so I'm sure the Challenger is a bit better from a roll.

My bud just got the 10' Challenger with the 6.1L, he already started talking about the track, I'm playing scared to see if he'll put more than bragging rights on the trip. ;)

Those Jeeps are probably the biggest SRT threat out there...Their is a guy around my house with one and he supercharged it, it launches like a syclone...pretty sick, when they are nicely modded...they hook and go!
