Just sitting here thinking and was wondering if this was a possible option. They can be had cheap, can handle more power stock, should be cheaper to build for higher hp levels and easier to find someone to work on them. Would have to run a $600 standalone unit though. Anyway was bored at work and it came across my mind, hell I'm not even sure if it would bolt up ?

Speedway motors has BOP to Chevy adapters. AFAIK, MS has a standalone TCU for the 60/80e's or you can snag a '7427 ECM from the boneyard and piggyback that to run the trans. The '7427 would need the appropriate inputs as well as the ability to burn the chips, or use an emulator to tune the trans. Gearhead EFI has a completley disassembled mask with all the trans parameters available, in their library. They also have a few good folks to help with tuning. Good Luck!

I think if I were to go that route I would just go with an 80 since they handle more power.

I'm not so sure they can handle more power. Seems like there are actually more buicks running faster with 2004rs than Chevy guys with 4l60e's. Also the 1-2 gear spread sucks with them..

When I was building my LS setup it was normal to hear of guys running stock 4l60's behind 400 hp engines, now I have no clue as to the gear ratios they may indeed suck. Anyway wasn't planning on doing it as I have 2 GN transmissions sitting in the garage now. Like I said was just a thought that came up that's all but thanks for the input it did answer some questions I had.

You could call Dana at Probilt for any info regarding ratios and such. The 700R4's had the large 1-2 spread, the 4L60/e has a more favorable spread, iirc.

No. They all have the same ratios unless aftermarket planetaries are used.

I've heard the 4L60e is not a strong transmission. I would go 4L80 if I was making the swap. Friend made 750whp through a stock 4L80 with a shift kit.
