Im sure this kind of thread has been done before.
If you have sold or bought a car on eBay.
How did your selling or buying experience go?
And not just the bad ones, there has to be a few good ones.

My car came from Pennsylvania- had no problem with seller, actually called and talked with him before I bid... Car sat in his garage about 30 days till I got a transporter lined up to get it across country- had to fire the first transporter, just wasn't getting around to picking it up... Second transporter had it delivered in 10 days.

Bought my 83 T off evilbay and the buyer was very accomodating. I had to get the time to get it as well as line up a truck and trailer. One of those trips that you laugh about, but it's been 5 years now and I'm still rebuilding it.o_O Drove from CN TX to misuri (spelled that way on purpose) and back again in less than 24 hours just to bring her home. :D

In the past I have sold around 10 cars on there I think they were all good experiences. I haven't sold any cars on there in probably 7 years now though

I sold my GSX on Ebay that deal worked out fine. I probably should have kept it as it would be worth a bunch more now. Live and learn I guess...

Wow, I have to admit, I thought this was going to go the other way.
All good so far, well except for mine.
Not doing so good with my one car sell, high bidder is flaking out, and now Im receiving fake ebay emails. I reported them.
Im glad to hear about the positive stuff.
Thanks.

Hi Neal, How ya been? I remember you selling the GSX. Sold a few I wished I kept.
I still have my 67 BB GS pillar car.

Bought one on ebay . Got lucky , but would not buy a car sight unseen again . To many little things that were over looked in the description , where they would of been picked up in seeing the car up close and in person .

Rod,

It's a small world, I didn't know you were on the board. Things here are going well, I'm still living in CA and playing with Buicks. I was out of the Turbo cars for a couple of years but I'm back now. I needed a way to keep my bank account low and fixing up old cars seems to work nicely. ;) I still remember your '67. Didn't you trade me the intake of that one once upon a time? What are you selling on Ebay?

Neal

My first car sale on eBay was back in 2003-ish. I sold my 2002 Firehawk Trans Am to a guy in the UK. I initially just put the car on eBay for grins to see what kind of bidding it would get. Turns out I had 3 people interested in it. The guy who bought the car still has it to this day and we still talk from time to time. It's very cool to know that a true car guy across the world from me has the Hawk and takes care f it VERY well.

After that, I did a lot of selling for friends and dealers, all of which went very well. I also bought my GN on eBay. That was a great transaction also. I still try to talk to the former owner from time to time. He followed the build of the car via his son who is on another board I frequent.

So overall, I had had a lot of good experience with the Bay. Hopefully that continues.

Bought my GN on ebay, also sold a motorcycle on ebay. Both times were positive experiences. Bidders flaking out can be a problem, but it's just like selling a car anywhere else. You get people who pretend to be interested then they flake out. It's a good way to reach a wide audience. Maybe if you require a deposit in a set, short amount of time at the end of the auction, then you can quickly move on to the next highest bidder if it doesn't work out.

The bad, won a 67 GS Convertible on ebay. Had a long discussion with the seller and he convinced me it was solid and worth bidding on; won the car. Hooked the car hauler and drove 8 hours to get it, the frame was so rotten there were sections missing and you could not open the doors or drive the car as the fenders held the front end on and would not turn out of his driveway. Asked why he misrepresented the car? He got so angry he told me to leave. Okay by me as I was not paying for the car.

The good, won a full size conversion van with no reserve on ebay for $2500.00 because no one else bid. The van was in fantastic shape, better than the pictures or owner described. I felt bad for the guy, he should have had a reserve.

Please indulge a first-time poster. :)

I've been looking for another car this year since my '01 Crown Vic Police Interceptor was stolen (R.I.P.) and while searching the internet for classic cars that I could afford I discovered TURBO BUICKS!

Well after a month or so of Autotrader, ClassicCars.Com, Ebay, etc. I found a car that I actually bid on (I probably checked out 70 GNs, most on Ebay before deciding). An 87 GN with high mileage but new paint and in my price range. I was actually outbid but the winning bidder (for some reason...) wouldn't pay. So I was contacted through Ebay for a second chance auction at my initial/final bid and took it (after a few days pondering). Sight unseen I had "bought" a car through Ebay and now had to go through the paces of making it happen.

The seller at first was not that communicative which had me worried. Especially when another buyer of his claimed through feedback that the seller was not returning any of his communications (supposedly due to a low no reserve winning bid, who knows, that sale fell through and was relisted for buyer not submitting payment I believe). After a few days I was contacted by the seller and we maintained conversation throughout the rest of the process which included me transferring funds from bank to bank and then the seller shipping me the title and then arrangement of shipping.

It is a scary process especially if you're dumb like I am and not inspect in person or pay someone to do so. Ebay's $50K auto buying coverage only applies to stuff that is misrepresented in the auction (makes sense but lemon opportunity is huge) anything that is not mentioned in auction or via official Ebay communique (user to user messages in Ebay) is not covered. If a seller wont answer a question through official Ebay channels or wants to get a different means to contact you about the question that is not Ebay-seen you are not covered and have no means to take action in case of discrepancies.

Back to my story, I was not misrepresented at all. Let me preface the rest of this by saying I don't know enough/have the resources to work on a car at this time like I would like to. I needed to get it state inspected so I took it to a shop and the car failed miserably, most of which was the very strict state-specific safety inspection regulations (1 time only and then you don't have to upkeep your car anymore and can be a hazard on the road, guess that state...). Anyway, the parts were affordable, labor was insane (can't wait to move), and the car rides a lot better and is now legal to drive, again...

50/50 I guess, it's all about perspective, oh and I'm not finished with the intricacies of this car so I can't even say for sure. :)

I was selling a 86 GN T-top project car and the winning bidder is MIA. And now im receiving bogus ebay emails. I'll try again.
I think the black 67 you seen, maybe at Pomona, that was a hard top. I found a 67 big block pillar car in Zanesville OH the year the Nats were in Columbus.
The last year and a half I was back in LA working, but im back up north for now.

And not just the bad ones, there has to be a few good ones.

On the first one-
over all not bad but i think i got caught on insider-bets.(what ever)
i did NOT pay a dime electronically. i paid in full cash when i picked up the car and verified the cars condition to its advertised condition. BUT I was ready to walk away or renegotiate if the it wasn't, all was good paid the full winning bid amount and towed it home.

On the second one-
i won the auction
Drove to Alabama to pick up a car.
the advertised description was no wheres near the condition of the car.
Made the guy an offer
he declined
i came back home with out a car.

Sold my '03 Crown Vic Sport on E-Bay with no issues. Spoke with the buyer a few times, he came down, saw it and bought it.
