Waiting on the KC valvebody but I have the CK separator plate and PTC so hopefully next week.

I'm feeding my engine GM tabs in the meantime, Walbro and Cometic are on my Crap Island list right now.

switched converters to a ptc 9.5 n/l with a new trans, how does the 2/3 fell on part throttle with the new converter? i can tell the 9.5 is alot tighter and it also has a coupling fell to it when you drive but it its almost weird felling now. the trans shifts (2/3) and it almost fells as if it didn't shift but its pulling good on the mph and the rpms are staying the same but a slight drop at the shift point under part throttle. just wondering if this is the fell with this converter? i have yet to do a dead stop WOT run but i do have a few part throttle logs. anyways if this doesn't make since its been a long day let me tell you.

You won't get a huge rpm drop during normal driving. You will need WOT data to evaluate the converter.

dusty, what do i look at with WOT data? i can calculate slip i know this. i have done a few street pulls at 15psi which isnt that high of boost and the rpms arent really that high. i will get more data at the track at 25psi of boost and higher shift points.

Your looking for rpm drop at the gear changes. You want it to drop at least 600 rpm when at WOT.

I got out tonight but didn't do as many runs as I'd like due to a fat/popping issue in 1st gear that I need to wideband to see and correct in the TT chip.

The KC Valvebody from Jakeshoe and the CK KC separator plate really work, were $190 total shipped and below is my story.

I have a modded Governor, we left it in for now, that shifted my BRF valvebody 200rpm more so here's what's happening.

6000rpm shift with the cable back at least a tooth (Jimmy didn't like where the cruise shifts were). So not only is it shifting at 6k with the modded governor but the shift cable is back a tooth taking away rpm.

I'm going to put in the stock gov and move the shift cable to the original position so the line pressure kicks up (not shifting as hard as before).

But this converter is WAY tighter than the Precision, it literally moves the car as soon as you put it in gear and the 1-2 shift I noticed the rpms were not as easy to climb up in gear. I can see how PTC user GN's are doing 80mph at the end of 2nd, wow.

I haven't done a transbrake launch but it seemed pretty loose while trying to get out of a steep driveway. Spoolup is insane due to my setup so I'm not the guy to get before and after from, both converters spooled awesome.

Cruising specs at 50mph in 4th (data isn't from a laptop)
Precision 5 Disk - 1600rpm
PTC - 1750rpm

I take that because I'm well below the stall rpm that the PTC isn't going to be close to 0% efficiency like the lock up. I appears as if the PTC is slipping about 9% at that rpm so I can see how these get to 4% at WOT.

That minor loss in fuel gets made up by the performance IMO.

Very good summary. What you found in the steep driveway is what I describe to people interested in them. Climbing a steep driveway simulates foot braking the car. The converter is seeing alot of load yet the motor is fairly low rpm, this is when the converter un-couples to get the turbo spooled.

The low stall at 0# is what gives them the good driveability and this is why the car moves effortlessly when you put it in gear. This is also what keeps the rpm in check when cruising anywhere from 50-80 mph. It's like nothing else out there, but it's hard to put into words;)

another thing, like dusty and i talked about the weight savings his huge as well ;)

I'm happy with this in every way, and don't have to worry about disks burning up and all that $$ that goes into that aspect of the lock up converter.

These TOTALLY kill Art Carr and he was a big reason why I didn't switch to a non locker in 06' (though I'm not sure PTC was killing like today back then). Art's converters are so sloppy in a 5500rpm vehicle that I'd rather spend more $$ and deal with the possible clutch issues.

Not anymore, with Dusty, Jake, CK, and a 2004R pro like Jimmy, you can really have it all with no issues. ;)

I'll report back after I get the stock Gov put in and do a transbrake launch. I have a feeling these Nittos, even with QA1's set soft, aren't going to cut it. :(

Cant wait to hear about it.

ok I r&r my tranny and converter last night took me about 47 min but i got it done.. installed the ck performance full billit tranny and the 9.5 5 disc vigulantie converter.. the car is completely different now.. it brakes the tires loose in every gear and feels like it has a ton more power.. the converter is not as noisy as people make it sound it was all well worth the 3600 bucks i spent on all the stuff thanks ckperformance and full throttle

Finally got around to doing a transbrake launch, not until 3400-3500 did the load start to make boost and then it was INSANE!!!!
I have a 3.5" driveshaft but I'd fear for my stock axles if I had slicks.
Luckily the Nittos can't really grab so I'm not too concerned right now.

I guess I can run that 62/65 I was looking at without any problems.

Can you give a quick update, parts etc, on the project and the learning curve Jimmy and you had.

If you want your GN to shift at 6k with a PTC, here is how I did it.

1) PTC from Dusty ;)
2) KC Valvebody from Jake Shoe (on this board)
3) KC Separator Plate from CK Performance
4) 200rpm modded stock governor (Jimmy and I did this to the BRF trans since it was only shifting around 5300rpm for me with the Precision)

It's pretty straight forward since Jimmy will do all the normal build mods and tweaks for the Non Lockup aspect of the TQ Converter.

I'll post back when I upgrade to the 62/65 (probably next year :frown:) to show the T Brake stall difference. Good example of small turbo vs big turbo on a converters stall.
