Anyone ever do this...bent wastegate flapper

Happened to me last night. Rolled into it while cruising on the highway. Big backfire like kaboom and then poor boost afterward (everything else seemed OK). Felt like the poor boost/low power you get when your puck isn't sealing. Pulled the downpipe off and this is what I found. Fixing these cars seems never ending.:frown:

My question is, what caused the backfire? That was quite an explosion.

Good question, but I don't have a good answer right now yet. Before I shut the car down, the idle was steady (steady vacuum reading on the gauge) which to me is an indication that all cylinders are firing well. Even the turbine looks good with no shaft play.

Well I actually was able to bend it back with pliers without the need to heat it up first with a torch to soften it. Put it all back together and boost is back in control. Lucky me on this one.
