Today a friend of mine and I came up with the idea of dropping a TR motor into a C4. He found a high mileage, but clean black '84 that would make the ideal canidate.

So, has anyone out there done this, or are we going to be pioneers?? I have a good idea on what will be needed with the electrical part of things, but I'm just wondering how things will fit?

Will the motor mounts sit fairly close on the crossmember?

What is the length difference between the 700R4 and a 200-4R?

What is the rear end ratio and how much power can the IRS take?

Thanks,
Mike

I've seen it done before at the nats in BG a few years back.Every thing looked like it packaged pretty well. The car flew by the way.But it I'm betting it wasnt a bolt in.But its too cool not to do!Theres nothing you can't do with a welder, sawzall, and a BFH!

far as the mounts go, I wouldn't be afraid to venture out on a limb and say you'll be making them yourself, even though you may get lucky and find G-body mounts are a decent fit. Doubt it, but it could happen. The 700 can be built, but the earlier ones are crap so expect it. If you've got a loose 200R4 TC lying around, I think it'll work with the earlier 700s. One of the mods they made later was more splines on the input shaft because they had issues at higher power. You're talking a few inches length between the 200R4 and the 700, if you wanna use the 700 get an adapter plate about $50.

On the topic of electrical, it's a TBI system that's speed density/distributor based versus mass air and EDIS. You can probably get a swap harness from Caspers and use it, or you can do what I'm doing and sit down with your two pinouts and schematics and make it work. There's some serious time involved, but considerable savings.

The auto's a Dana 36 I think, but a 44 will work with some shoehorning. You'll probably need to check RPOs for the gearing in the back end. http://w1.605.telia.com/~u60505093/index.htm
This guy broke a 36, but then again he's also got a FI system with 8 injectors and 90# injectors.

overall I'd love to see the web page of the swap.

I may have a line on a good LC2 and built 200-4R with all the electronice necessary. I would have no need for the 700-R4. It looks like I'll need to fab up a tranny mount and have the driveshaft lengthened 3 inches or so. If anyone knows someone who's done this, I would love to talk to them about the motor mounts.

Marc, any way you can post that vid??
