I had a red GN a number of years ago that had a set in the fiberglass GN hood. They were there when I bought the car and I did not care for them on that car but then the car was largely a POS so that likely had something to do with it! I am a fan of keeping a factory looking body then improving everything underneath but that's just me so if it "floats your boat" I say go for it.

Looks better than I imagined...and if they are functional.....go for it.

Not sure it would even work with the vents I got. They are from Kirban. Price is right, piece seems not to me. Looks thermal formed and there is a lip indent to it won't attach flush. I'd have to use like quadruple the 3M tape to build it up to flush...

How do people mount these on their fenders?!

I'll probably just recreate them on the waterjet and weld up some metal ones instead...

For the most part the vents and fender flares, upon close inspection when installed, look like crap, in my opinion. Takes a lot of work to get them
to look nice. Some are just junk and can't be made to look nice. That said, a vendor should be contradicting me soon...10.....9....8....
I really want them on my car but they look like crap.....7.....6......5......4.....3.....2..........

Yeah, these are definitely not going on the car. Either going to remake them out of fiberglass or metal. I'll figure that out tomorrow in the shop...

If you make something nice, that looks nice and actually fits, keep me in mind......................:D

the Lumina Z34 or Grand Prix GTP hood vents would look better on the hood, as well as being actually designed to be aerodynamically effective in the way the air flows over the horizontal hood surface.. and they'd work better at speed if they were placed farther forward on the hood to get them away from the high pressure area at the base of the windshield- the closer to the front of the hood, the better since they could take advantage of the low pressure area created by the air flowing over the front edge of the hood.

hello cancel that last responce; I think the guy doing that super frame off job from Nevada is doing something with venting? I'd like to see it when it's done.

Here's mine when I bought it they are long gone now!!!View attachment 155843

I like it. I'm a Pontiac guy at heart though so I like holes in my hoods...I had a GTP Special Edition '01 with the hood vents. They work, look nice, and are designed, as mentioned, for functionality at speed.

Not my car but you can see them well here...Might be too much with the bulge though.

My personal opinion is that the GNX vents HAVE to go with the flares if you put them in the stock location. It looks weird, to me at least, if you have the GNX vents and GN emblem or GNX vents with no flares. Those 2 were made to go together. I actually like the idea of the GNX vents in the hood but more toward the outer edge. For a stock looking car, especially with the 3.8 SFI emblems they are a little dominating though (little too wide). Putting them near the bulge is too busy. I have some pics of mock up placements and a LeSabre with the GNX vents in the hood. I also saw a Mustang with a plain hood and the GNX vents in the hood and it looked REALLY nice.

On a side note the ones Kirban sells are extremely cheap feeling and thin, almost like paper. Nothing against him, but the vents are really flimsy.

with these vents on the hood what would you do about stopping any water from getting on your engine (Besides not washing or driving the car in the rain) ?

Oh, I knew it was only a matter of time Mark! ;)
FWIW there are also fiberglass versions of the GNX vents available, though they also mount with double-sided tape. If you come up with a quality set that mounts securely I'd be in for those!

About vents in the hood.....I believe we were the very first to do this way back when we did our original fiberglass hood matter of fact lawrence Conleys famous car tweaked got our first fiberglass hood and it got the trans am vents in it. think it was even copied on the GMP diecast 1:18 scale emodel. For several years we offered those vents until GM discontinued them. Consisted I think if two pieces in plastic the actual bezel and the vent that snapped into it.

I think the GNX vents would look weird because they have been associated to long with being in the fenders. The TA vents since they were always on the hood looked right at home on the Regal hood and were not big. Probably if you looked hard enough some current car has something that would look right at home on the hood.

Going on the theory that heat rises I think any style open vent in that area of the hood would allow heat to escape. Word of advice measure twice cut once so opening is identical on both sides and avoid the area on the back side where the frame of the hood would pose a problem.

More thoughts.....A few things people need to keep in mind on the GNX project that ASC partnershipped with Buick since it was a limited run, many of the items were hand made. If you have ever seen a real GNX with one of the front flares removed you would be amazed at how crude the fender looks. If you ever pull a real GNX dash the housing and harness you can tell was hand done.

Same with the vents. I am not sure how many companies are cranking out repro GNX vents ours are light weight so you can secure them without the weight of them being an issue.

I see someone posted Conleys car that is our hood with the GTA vents on it. One thing to consider before you measure twice and cut one is the vents should probably go somewhere towards the outer edge like on Conleys car. This may water etc will not get near the coil pack. Again just my thoughts.

One of the first tubbed GNXs also had our hood and bumpers on it....

Slightly off the subject but a project that would be even far more involved than cutting your hood for vents is I actually have the entire instruction manual from Hurst on how to cut your roof to install T-Tops......can you imagine tackling that project on a Saturday afternoon? Hurst called them Hurst/Hatches became popular in the 1970s.......one idea they should have put to rest before the Turbo regals hit the streets.
