as a profession, income is on the high side ($100K plus median)
however, becoming a CFP with no experience in the financial services field will not yield very good results...in fact, the designation will not be granted without some experience in the field or a formal internship ( For example, I worked in the insurance industry for 12 years and am also a CPA)
if you want to work for someone, the usual suspects are hiring (Amex, wireline brokerages, Insurance cos.,etc)
the most $$ can be made in private practice and this is prolly a 10 year proposition to get a client base built up unless you are coming from the insurance, accounting, or brokerage industries.
