I am looking to segwae into this field as the clock clicks down to retirement at the fire department.

I have a B/A in business, but need to know what is required to become a CFP.

Thanks

the basic requirements are a college degree with certain required courses and passing a comprehensive exam....courses are offered by many colleges and univ to prepare for the exam

contact the College for Financial Planning in Denver or the CFP Board of Standards also in Denver

I have been a CFP since the early 80's and the test and education requirements have changed quite a bit since then

Thanks Woody,

I believe I have been to their website briefly.

From a revenue standpoint are you pretty satisfies as a CFP.

Also, if you don't mind me asking how is the job market for this profession in the Scottsdale area.

My wife and I are set on relocating to that area in the next few years.

Happy Holidays and thanks again for taking the time.

as a profession, income is on the high side ($100K plus median)

however, becoming a CFP with no experience in the financial services field will not yield very good results...in fact, the designation will not be granted without some experience in the field or a formal internship ( For example, I worked in the insurance industry for 12 years and am also a CPA)

if you want to work for someone, the usual suspects are hiring (Amex, wireline brokerages, Insurance cos.,etc)

the most $$ can be made in private practice and this is prolly a 10 year proposition to get a client base built up unless you are coming from the insurance, accounting, or brokerage industries.

Good luck in your quest and Merry Christmas!
