Anyone into Baseball Cards? I am a junk wax era fan myself! But have been getting into cleaning and grading cards recently. If you like cards, which era/graded not graded/personal collection or selling? Hope everyone's Fourth went smoothly!

I have boxes upon boxes, all 70s and 80s , just went through them over the winter put everything in top loaders
it was like a full time job it took weeks lol

Nice! All PC (Personal Collection)? Ever think about getting some of them graded?

I just went through mine about a year ago, and completely agree takes a long time to do it the right way. Penny sleeve and top loader then in a box for top loaders. That's my goto now for card collecting.

I thought about grading but i don't think its feasible to grade hundreds of cards, the grading process is long and expensive ,you have to have a no brainer like a hall of fame rookie or a mint error card or something like that

You can pretty much eye a card to like a grade 7 (if it looks mint) then after that it gets real technical, cards right out of the pack usually dont make a 7

There is so much tech with the margins, color and stamping its like a machine shop building a motor
I would have to sell them as a near mint un-graded lot

Yes hundreds of cards graded isn't really an option for many, at $25 a card and months wait time as well.

I recently took some time to learn about grading. After getting some confidence I submitted for the 1st time, a batch of some good junk wax era cards; SP1 Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson's Rookie cards, Greg Maddux Rookie, Rickey Henderson. Of the ten cards I submitted to Beckett nine cards came back a "9" and I got one "9.5". Very happy about that. Also many of those cards had all black boarders which is the HARDEST color boarder to get graded. I got 30x Jewelers Loupe and that really helps to look at the corners.

I like Beckett for many reasons but a good one is that they use "Subgrades" 1. Centering 2. Corners 3. Edges 4. Surface. They those grades get averaged for your final grade. No other grading company does that. They have a strong reputation for being strict which I like, PSA is not so strict on there grading. I have seen many "10" PSA cards that clearly aren't a "10". Also another 'chase' is that Beckett has a "10" Gold label then a "10" Black Label, black labels are literally considered perfect cards and demand multiplicative more money then a regular gold label "10".

Plan is to sell some of the cards to pay for the grading itself, and use profits to pay for another batch to get graded. Then rinse and repeat and slowly I can build a graded personal collection. Or sell everything and get GN parts!

That's my plan also is to dump them off, only bad part is that an exact un-graded card to a graded card is 1/10th the value so you have to bite the bullet to move them quick.
