It was found clipped under the driver side dash by the steering column.

Looks like an aftermarket "ding"er or buzzer. Had something exactly like that on one of the Skyhawks I had back in the day. Was hooked up to the door switch with a relay so when the door opened it would buzz.

It appears to be some kind of relay. Maybe part of an old security system.??????

When we bought this car back in 97 from the original owner, it had a theft system on the car. After years of headaches and false alarms, I ripped it out. I'm just wondering if this was part of the old security system. This isn't a factory installed item is it? If not, I'll just leave it out.

so the consensus is I can leave this thing out since the alarm system is long gone......ok thanks guys

Alarm RPO number

Look on the service parts identification label in your trunk on the trunk lid...if your Grand National ever came with a theft deterent system you will see this RPO number:UA6 and AU3 which is power door locks that had to be used with the theft deterent system. If your label does not have these two RPO numbers, then your GN never came with an alarm system. This alone should clarify any questions concerning whether or not it came from the factory with an alarm system. (am I repeating myself or what??? )

wow thanks.....that's interesting to know......I don't have UA6 but do have AU3 so my car never had a factory installed theft system......it was aftermarket which I kinda figured anyway.........I think I remember peeling off the window stickers that said "Wolf Security Systems" so it was aftermarket. Interesting.

It looks like the hazard flasher from the pic - there are TWO - one for the signals and another for the hazards - one is at the fuse block and the other is up by the steering column.

After further review, I have concluded that this thing is indeed the turn signal flasher! Looks like I better go trash digging because I tossed it yesterday thinking it went to the old alarm system. Maybe that is why I don't have turn signals now!

Yep aftermarket turn signal flasher. The turn signal flasher has a metal clip that holds it to the metal support for the dash pad. On the right side of the steering column. The 4 way hazard flasher mounts in the fuse box. The correct flasher should have a short number starting with the number 3 for 3-Lamp. For example 323 or something like that. If it's a 2 than that is a 2-Lamp and will flash slower than normal. If it's a 4 or 6 than it will flash faster.

Glad my information helped you. Good to know. And the above quote really got my laugh going. Sounds just like something I would do. I admire a man who admits to his mistakes. Makes us all human.
Now a question for you...are those dark plexiglass covers over your headlights of your Grand National? Wow. Love it. Makes the GN look so sinister. Where did you get them? Gives me an idea to get a set, but paint them gloss black instead. Of course, I'd take them off at night, duh.

The covers are from GTS. If you do a search on yahoo or google, there will be many vendors that carry them. Just specify for 84-87 Buick Regal. I think I paid $45 for them out the door.
